Position Title: Part Time Custodian (5 hours per day)
Summary: To provide safe, clean, sanitary and organized interior and exterior spaces that provide a suitable environment for learning.
Qualifications:
  • Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
  • Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:6-7.1.
  • Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2.
  • Pass the state-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school related matters.
  • Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school director finds appropriate and acceptable.

Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

Essential Performance Responsibilities (The following description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.)
The Part-Time Custodian will:
  • Conducts morning assessments of condition of building, parking lots, playgrounds
  • Addresses and or reports all possible hazardous conditions to ADO
  • Conducts morning assessments of interior of buildings
    • Checks all classrooms and common areas and ensures all lights and equipment is operational as necessary for school activity
    • Ensures that all HVAC systems are operational and temperatures are comfortable, reports any issues to ADO
    • Is familiar with the normal operation of any heating boilers, furnaces, air conditioners, mini split systems, thermostats throughout the building
    • Replaces or cleans filters for mini split systems, window ACs, furnaces.
    • Maintains logs for boilers indicating proper operation, deficiencies or repairs
    • Reports any leaks, damage or deficiencies to the floors, ceilings, walls, and or fixtures
    • Ensures that doors used while building is occupied operate in accordance with all security measures in mind
    • Ensures that offices, classrooms, building doors, and windows are closed and locked before departing campus
    • Is familiar with protocols related to security such as lockdowns, shelter in place, evacuation and fire drills
    • Is familiar with operation and procedures for fire alarms.
  • Maintains boiler room and electrical rooms and stairwells and hallways free of storage and or clutter
    • Electrical boxes must have 36 inches of clearance as per NFPA
    • Standpipes, meters, and sprinkler controls must be kept accessible
  • Monitors all annual and semiannual inspections of the building such as sprinkler, standpipe, suppression systems, fire extinguisher, hood cleanings and grease trap and reports any lapses to administration
  • Receives and reports any deliveries to the building
  • Performs duties to maintain building in good appearance and order such as
    • Snow removal
    • Lawn mowing
    • Leaf Blowing, collection, removal
    • Cuts down foliage
    • Clears walkways
    • Pressure washing
    • Painting
    • Maintains floors by sanding, waxing, stripping, buffing and using floor scrubber.
    • Maintains all equipment and machines such as all cleaning solvents, floor scrubbers, stripping, and buffing machines
    • Moves furniture as requested by school administration or facilities department
    • Conducts all work with attention to safety and detail
  • Visually inspects systems such as lighting, electrical outlets, fixtures, plumbing leaks. Performs any minor repairs related. Reports to ADO any item that requires specialized attention.
  • Prepares rooms, offices, common areas for activities such as assemblies presentations, lunch, breakfast and meetings and extracurricular activities
    • Sets up tables
    • Mops and sweeps floor
    • Ensures that floor is free of debris or trash
    • Provides trash containers and removes trash as needed
    • Wipes tables using appropriate solvents
  • Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms, offices, conference rooms and lounges and common areas
    • Stocks toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels where necessary
    • Stocks lounge with coffee, cups, water cooler refills
    • Ensures that all sinks are wiped down, sanitizes water fountains and bottle fillers, replaces water fountain filters when necessary
    • Keeps areas free from spills, trash and debris, sweeps and mops when necessary
  • Deep cleans and sanitizes nurses office and other high traffic areas
    • Wipes down with sanitizer all high contact areas throughout the building such as handles, knobs, doors, push bars, railings etc.
    • Sanitizes nurses office paying close attention to chairs, beds, desk, sink and bathroom where available
  • Responds to emergencies such as
    • Spills
    • Medical situations such as vomit, blood, other bodily fluids always maintaining and using safe practices as dictated by blood borne pathogen trainings
    • Any other calls for assistance made by the school Administration
  • Attends trainings as required by the State of New Jersey and Facilities Department, submits all appropriate documentation in a timely manner
  • Has and maintains the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs
  • Is able to work in inclement weather, hot and cold environments
  • Maintains all appropriate medical clearance to perform duty
  • Is able to work the custodial schedule which includes December break and Spring Break duties as well as assist with snow removal even when schools are closed

Perform any other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification that may be assigned.
