Position Summary: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout assigned facilities. This includes routine cleaning of offices, restrooms, secured areas, and surrounding grounds. This role supports overall facility operations by ensuring cleanliness, proper sanitation, and adherence to safety and security standards.

Duties and Responsibility:

  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain restrooms; restock supplies as needed
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, and maintain floors; operate floor care equipment such as buffers when required
  • Perform spray buffing and routine floor maintenance
  • Empty, clean, and sanitize trash and recycling receptacles
  • Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, blinds, woodwork, and equipment
  • Clean desks, countertops, and other work surfaces
  • Perform high dusting using ladders and appropriate safety procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness of secure and restricted areas in compliance with protocols
  • Perform exterior duties including grounds policing and debris removal
  • Follow all OSHA guidelines and safety procedures when handling cleaning agents and hazardous materials
  • Maintain active CBP security clearance as required
  • Assist with basic building maintenance and minor equipment upkeep
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of effective cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, and routine preventive maintenance practices
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain custodial equipment and tools (e.g., vacuums, buffers, cleaning machinery)
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and minor equipment repair
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including safety procedures and OSHA guidelines for handling chemicals and hazardous materials
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and adapt to changing work conditions, including inclement weather
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and comply with security protocols in secured or restricted areas

Requirements

  • Clearance Required: Must be able to pass a government background investigation (HSPD -12 Clearance).
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and reach for extended periods
  • Ability to access areas requiring stairs, ladders, or confined movement
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently carry items up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed
  • Prior custodial or general cleaning experience preferred
