What is a part time broker?

A Part Time Broker is a professional who facilitates transactions, such as real estate, insurance, or financial investments, on a limited or flexible schedule. They perform the same duties as full-time brokers, including client consultations, market research, and negotiating deals, but with fewer hours or selective engagements. This role is ideal for individuals looking for supplemental income or a better work-life balance while maintaining industry expertise. Many part-time brokers work independently or with firms that allow flexible schedules. Licensing requirements vary by industry and location.

What does a part time broker do?

A Part Time Broker usually works flexible hours based on client needs, market activity, and personal availability, often dividing their time between meetings, client communications, and paperwork. Many part-time brokers manage their workload independently but may collaborate with full-time brokers, administrative staff, or other team members when needed. This structure allows for a healthy work-life balance while maintaining the responsiveness and dedication required to serve clients effectively. Workflow is typically managed through digital platforms, enabling brokers to access listings, portfolios, and market data remotely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time broker?

Familiarity with industry-specific software, regulatory compliance tools, and digital communication platforms is often essential. Strong interpersonal communication, time management, and the ability to build client trust make someone stand out in this role. These skills ensure you can efficiently manage client portfolios, comply with regulations, and succeed despite working limited hours.

Can you be a part time broker as a side hustle?

Part time brokers can often work as a side hustle if they meet licensing requirements and manage their schedule accordingly. Many brokerage roles require specific certifications and adherence to industry regulations, which can be balanced with other employment if properly managed. However, some firms may have policies regarding outside work, so it is important to verify employer policies and licensing obligations.

Do part time brokers hire part-time agents?

Part time brokers often hire part-time agents to expand their team and serve clients flexibly. Hiring practices depend on the broker's business model, licensing requirements, and the need for support staff or sales agents working on a part-time basis.

How much does a part time broker make?

Part-time brokers typically earn between $15 and $30 per hour, depending on the industry, experience, and location. Their total income can vary based on the number of clients, sales volume, and commission structures, with some earning additional bonuses or incentives.

This position is limited to non-licensed activities and does not take applications, quote rates, or discuss loan terms. This position is meant to participate in the Real Estate Partner Program (REP).

PRMG offers a comprehensive benefits package for our full-time employees and their dependents, which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, a Health Savings Account (HSA), a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), and various other products, based on benefits eligibility, elections, and employee premiums. Educate prospective consumers on the mortgage process at a general level and direct all loan-specific questions to a licensed Mortgage Loan Originator. Schedule and coordinate introductions and appointments between prospective borrowers and licensed Mortgage Loan Originators. Maintain consistent follow-up with prospective consumers to support engagement and conversion. Track lead activity, referral sources, contact history, and pipeline status in the company CRM or other approved systems. Support branch production goals by developing and maintaining a steady pipeline of qualified consumer opportunities. Work closely with licensed Mortgage Loan Originators, branch leadership, and internal teams to ensure smooth handoff and follow-through on referred consumers. Participate in approved marketing, outreach, and business development initiatives to increase awareness of the company's mortgage services. Maintain accurate records and perform all duties in compliance with company policy and applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Keep all mortgage-related activities within the scope of a non-licensed role. This position does not take loan applications, quote rates, recommend loan products, negotiate loan terms, or perform any activity requiring Mortgage Loan Originator licensure. If also licensed as a real estate broker, maintain clear separation between mortgage outreach activities and real estate brokerage activities in accordance with company policy and applicable law. Ensure any required affiliated business arrangement disclosures are provided at the time of referral to PRMG or to the brokerage. Complete all required training, orientation, and attend meetings.
