This role focuses on completing realistic, multi-step scientific analysis workflows across computational genomics, quantitative biology, and translational biomedicine. Selected experts will work from complex biological datasets through quality control, statistical analysis, interpretation, and structured scientific reporting.

Key ResponsibilitiesComputational Genomics AnalysisComplete complex data-analysis tasks involving genomics and biomedical datasetsWork with sequencing, single-cell, population-genetics, QTL/GWAS, and related omics dataAnalyse biological datasets from initial inspection through final interpretationIdentify relevant biological signals, analytical limitations, and potential confoundersApply appropriate computational methods to realistic research questionsStatistical BioinformaticsSelect and apply appropriate statistical methods for biological and biomedical dataDevelop and evaluate statistical models for complex genomic datasetsAssess assumptions, uncertainty, model limitations, and robustnessDistinguish meaningful biological findings from technical or statistical artefactsApply rigorous scientific inference throughout multi-stage analysesData Quality & Exploratory AnalysisInspect raw or messy datasets for completeness, structure, and data-quality issuesPerform quality control and exploratory data analysisIdentify outliers, batch effects, missingness, confounding, and other analytical challengesDetermine appropriate preprocessing and transformation strategiesDocument key analytical decisions and their implicationsR & Python WorkflowsDevelop and execute scientific analysis workflows in R and PythonWrite, debug, and explain analysis codeUse relevant statistical, genomic, and scientific software librariesBuild reusable scripts and structured computational workflowsValidate analytical outputs for correctness and reproducibilityScientific Workflow DesignNavigate ambiguous research problems requiring independent analytical judgementDetermine appropriate analytical steps when workflows are not fully specifiedIdentify alternative approaches and evaluate their strengths and limitationsProgress from raw data through modelling, interpretation, and final outputEnsure analytical choices remain aligned with the underlying scientific questionBiological & Translational InterpretationInterpret statistical results within their biological or translational contextConnect quantitative findings to underlying mechanisms or research objectivesCommunicate assumptions, uncertainty, limitations, and conclusions clearlyAvoid overinterpretation of weak or incomplete evidenceProduce conclusions that accurately reflect both statistical and biological evidenceReproducible Research & DocumentationCreate reproducible scientific analyses using scripts, notebooks, and structured workflowsDocument methods, assumptions, parameters, and analytical decisions preciselyUse command-line tools and remote computational environments where appropriateMaintain clear provenance between source data, transformations, analyses, and conclusionsApply version-control or workflow-management practices where relevantIdeal ProfilePhD required in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistical genetics, quantitative biology, biostatistics, genomics, or a closely related fieldDeep hands-on experience analysing biological or biomedical datasetsStrong experience with genomics, sequencing, single-cell, population genetics, QTL/GWAS, or related omics workflowsProfessional fluency in R and PythonAbility to write, debug, and explain scientific analysis codeStrong foundation in statistical modelling, experimental design, quality control, and scientific inferenceDemonstrated ability to independently complete multi-step computational research workflowsStrong experience working from raw or imperfect data through final scientific interpretationClear scientific writing and ability to document methods, assumptions, and results preciselyFamiliarity with notebooks, scripts, version control, workflow tools, or other reproducible-research practices is advantageousComfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary scientific and technical teamsEngagement DetailsPart-time independent contractor engagementFully remoteOpen to qualified experts globallyFlexible scheduling based on project requirementsCompensation: Up to $75/hourProject-based work involving computational genomics, statistical bioinformatics, quantitative biology, and translational biomedical analysisWork may include data inspection, quality control, statistical modelling, coding, scientific interpretation, and structured reportingProjects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performanceWork must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third partyH1-B and STEM OPT support is unavailable for this engagementAbout the PlatformThis opportunity is available through 24-MAG LLC.
