Current Site Positions
Mt. Carmel High School: Instructional Assistant-Auto Technician for 8 hrs per week (1.6 hrs/day) / 9.5 months per year.
Poway High School-Instructional Assistant-Auto Technician for 17.5 hours a week/9.5 hours per year.

Selection Procedure
Applications will be screened, and those candidates whose backgrounds best match the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in a competitive examination process, which may include any combination of the following: Training & Experience evaluation (T&E), multiple-choice question test, job-related performance exercise, and technical/ oral appraisal interview. Examination procedures are subject to change at the Director of the Personnel Commission's discretion.
Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same or equivalent job classification and will remain active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1).
Candidates who possess a valid and current CA teaching credential OR who possess a Bachelor's Degree AND have passed the CBEST
will be placed at Step 6 of the salary range designated for this classification.

BASIC PURPOSE:The job of Instructional Assistant - Vocational Education is done for the purposes of providing instructional support to individual or small groups of students enrolled in a designated vocational education program in a classroom or other learning environment; preparing classroom equipment and instructional materials; maintaining supplies and inventory; and providing record-keeping and clerical support to the teacher(s) and staff.
This Job reports to the assigned supervisor.
Examples of Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students enrolled in a designated vocational education program in a classroom or other learning environment; tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher. E
Monitor and oversee student drills, practices and assignments in a designated area of vocational education; assist assigned teacher with the implementation of lesson plans; assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects. E
Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating and filing instructional materials; grade student tests and assignments as directed; process program forms and applications as required; record student attendance as assigned. E
Provide classroom support to the teacher by setting up work areas and displays and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials; confer with teachers concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs; report progress regarding student performance. E
Assist students by answering questions and providing proper examples, friendly attitude and general guidance. E
Prepare and maintain a variety of records related to student grades, attendance, classroom functions and assigned activities; input student attendance and other data and maintain automated records as required. E
Communicate with students, District personnel and others to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; answer telephones and provide program and classroom information as assigned. E
Operate a variety of classroom and office equipment including a copier, fax machine, overhead projector, computer and assigned software. E
Monitor inventory levels of classroom supplies as directed; assist in ordering receiving and maintaining inventory of classroom supplies. E
Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner. E
Perform related duties as assigned.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AREAS:
AUTOMOTIVE
Experience in mechanical and automotive maintenance and repair environment.Assist in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students in the use of welders, torches, grinders, hand tools, floor jacks, hoists, drill press, 20-ton press, porta powers, tubing, benders, spray equipment, all pneumatic tooling, and spray booth. Assist the instructor to supervise students in multiple learning stations and multiple facilities for safety and to prevent damage to equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
Job-related experience is required in the assigned career technical subject (automotive).
Education
Targeted, job-related education with study in a job-related area.
Equivalency
Possession of a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent
and one of the following:
1) completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an institution of higher education
2) possession of an associate's (or higher) degree
or
3) passing the District's local assessment that demonstrates the knowledge and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics at a level meeting state and federal requirements. Two years of experience working with functions related to the assigned vocational education program.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to obtain certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED issued by an American Red Cross or American Heart Association or Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) approved training program within 10 business days of hire. Recertification to maintain current/valid status is a condition of employment and must be completed through the Poway Unified School District Preschool Program.
