We are seeking a highly skilled bilingual Simultaneous English/Spanish Interpreter to provide simultaneous "whisper translation" services in support of meetings, briefings, training sessions, and operational activities at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, FL.

So, what will the Simultaneous English/Spanish Interpreter at Terrestris do?

As the Simultaneous English/Spanish Interpreter you will facilitate real-time communication between English-speaking and Spanish-speaking participants by providing accurate, immediate verbal interpretation in a discreet manner. Assignments will generally require interpretation sessions lasting no more than one hour at a time, with breaks between sessions as needed. This temporary assignment is expected to last approximately 10 days, with a daily schedule of up to 9 hours on-site. Work will be performed on-site at Naval Station Mayport in professional office, conference room, classroom, and operational settings. Qualified candidates will be comfortable interacting with government personnel, military members, contractors, and other stakeholders.

What does a typical day look like for a Simultaneous English/Spanish Interpreter?

You will:

  • Provide simultaneous English-to-Spanish and Spanish-to-English interpretation during meetings, briefings, training sessions, and discussions.
  • Deliver "whisper translation" (chuchotage) services to individual participants or small groups without disrupting proceedings.
  • Accurately convey meaning, intent, tone, and context between speakers while maintaining neutrality.
  • Interpret technical, administrative, operational, and general business terminology as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information discussed during interpreted sessions.
  • Arrive prepared and review provided materials, agendas, and terminology prior to interpretation assignments.
  • Clarify terminology when necessary to ensure accurate communication.
  • Maintain professional conduct and appearance while working in a military environment.
  • Coordinate with government representatives and project personnel regarding interpretation schedules and requirements.
  • Adhere to all installation access, security, and safety procedures.
