ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

This role reports to Dr. John Yang.

SUMMARY

The Senior Research Assistant will support a double-blind placebo-controlled clinical study evaluating the effectiveness of a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) intervention for urinary incontinence among older adults. The study involves participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, informed consent, clinical assessments, follow-up visits, and data collection to evaluate treatment outcomes.

The Senior Research Assistant will support study implementation by assisting with participant-related activities, conducting assessments, maintaining study documentation, ensuring confidentiality, and following approved research protocols ethical requirements, and study procedures throughout the clinical trial.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support participant recruitment and screening activities under the direction of the Principal Investigator, including identifying potential participants and assisting with eligibility assessment based on approved study inclusion and exclusion criteria.
  • Assist with participant screening procedures under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, including collecting relevant information related to medical history, contraindications, allergies, and other safety considerations.
  • Support communication with potential participants regarding the study, including providing approved information about the study purpose, procedures, potential risks, and benefits, as directed by the Principal Investigator.
  • Support the informed consent process with eligible participants under the direction of the Principal Investigator, including reviewing approved consent forms, explaining study procedures, answering procedural questions, documenting consent, and ensuring participants have adequate time to consider participation before enrollment.
  • Complete participant enrollment procedures following informed consent, including assigning unique study identification codes and maintaining study tracking records.
  • Provide study-related instructions to enrolled participants under the approved protocol, including explaining intervention procedures, scheduled study visits, required assessments, and completion of study questionnaires.
  • Conduct baseline assessments, including collection of demographic information, relevant medical history, urinary incontinence symptom measures, and quality-of-life questionnaires according to the approved study protocol.
  • Coordinate scheduled study visits and conduct follow-up assessments, including reviewing participant diaries and medication logs, administering follow-up questionnaires, collecting outcome data, and documenting study-related information while maintaining the integrity of the double-blind study design. 
  • Monitor and document participant-reported adverse events, side effects, or changes in health status, and promptly report safety concerns or participant issues to the Principal Investigator for assessment and follow-up.
  • Conduct end-of-study assessments and support study close-out procedures, including final data collection, completion of study documentation, and providing participants with information regarding access to study findings where applicable.
  • Maintain accurate study records, including secure handling of consent forms, participant data, and research documentation while ensuring compliance with approved research procedures, confidentiality requirements, and data management standards.
  • Assist with other study-related tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) required
  • Bachelor's degree or higher required
  • Minimum 3 years of TCM clinical practice experience preferred
  • Experience working with older adult populations
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin
  • Familiarity with clinical research processes, informed consent, and research ethics
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and electronic data entry
  • Ability to travel to participating senior residences or community locations

SALARY INFORMATION

Anticipated hourly pay rate: $70.00
