FACULTY POSITION TITLE:  MANDARIN INSTRUCTORS (Dept of Language and Cultures)

FACULTY OVERVIEW:

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is the fourth largest university in the province of British Columbia and serves communities in a unique regional environment south of the stlw/sto:lo/Fraser River in the lands known today as British Columbia.  The name 'Kwantlen' comes from the Kwantlen First Nation in whose traditional territory the University is located. The Language and Cultures Department is the home to the BA Minor in Language and Culture at KPU and offers courses in Cree, French, Japanese, Mandarin, Punjabi, and Spanish language, also in Linguistics, and courses in Language and Culture. POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Department of Language and Cultures at KPU invites applications for non-regular positions to be placed on our Qualified Faculty List (QFL) for MAND 1110 (Mandarin Foundation for Tradi-tional Chinese Medicine/ Acupuncture) starting in fall 2026. The successful applicants should be committed to providing an excellent undergraduate educational experience for our students in this area. QUALIFICATIONS:

The preferred qualifications for the QFL positions in Mand 1110 are a Ph.D. in the Chinese Language or related areas, including coursework and/or research in Chinese culture, pedagogy and linguistics, and with native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese. However, candidates with a Master's degree in the above areas will also be considered.  

Preference will be given to candidates with a proven record of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level in a comparable setting for at least 2 years or 2-year full-time equivalency. Professional and applied experience in a culturally diverse environment and experience with online teaching and other classroom technology as well as teaching experience in TCM-related Mandarin courses will be considered definite assets. The successful applicant may be asked to take teaching assignments in fall semester, day and/or evening, online and at our Richmond campus.

A complete application includes a cover letter, current curriculum vitae, a statement on teaching philosophy, samples of research/publications, copies of transcripts of graduate degrees, teaching evaluations, and the names of three referees able to comment on your teaching ability and academic accomplishments. *SALARY INFORMATION:

Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.
