What is part-time AI project management?

Part-time AI project management involves overseeing artificial intelligence projects on a reduced or flexible schedule, rather than as a full-time commitment. These managers coordinate tasks, timelines, and team communications to deliver AI solutions, often working with data scientists, engineers, and stakeholders. The role may include defining project scopes, monitoring progress, managing resources, and ensuring deliverables meet quality standards, all while working fewer hours per week compared to a standard full-time job. This arrangement is ideal for professionals seeking work-life balance or those managing multiple commitments.

How do part-time AI project managers typically coordinate with cross-functional teams given limited working hours?

Part-time AI Project Managers often rely on clear communication and effective use of project management tools to stay aligned with data scientists, engineers, and stakeholders. They typically set regular check-ins, prioritize tasks, and delegate responsibilities to maximize impact during their scheduled hours. Utilizing collaboration platforms and providing detailed project documentation helps ensure progress continues smoothly even when the manager is off-duty. Flexibility and proactive planning are key to overcoming time constraints and maintaining team momentum.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time AI project manager, and why are they important?

To excel as a Part Time AI Project Manager, you need experience in project management methodologies, a basic understanding of artificial intelligence concepts, and relevant educational background, such as a degree in computer science or business. Familiarity with tools like Jira, Trello, or Asana, as well as certifications like PMP or Agile, is commonly expected. Exceptional communication, time management, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate teams and adapt to shifting priorities in a part-time capacity. Mastering these skills ensures that AI projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet stakeholder expectations, even with limited working hours.

  • Experience with federal government contracts/programs preferred.

Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
Clearance/Suitability: Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a favorably adjudicated Public Trust suitability determination.
