Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION: 48° North Advertising Sales Rep
The 48° North (48N) Ad Sales Rep is responsible for bringing in and retaining advertising business in 48° North—a magazine and digital media outlet about Pacific Northwest sailing and boating, and the associated communities. You will build excellent relationships and understand clients’ needs, find it rewarding to help promote those businesses and deliver outstanding and attentive service, and drive mutual benefit between the industry that supports PNW boaters and this free non-profit publication that also serves this community. You will independently handle a great deal of communication, prospecting and winning new business, securing agreements/contracts, and serving existing clients through the process of deadline reminders, receiving ads, ensuring placement, and assembling monthly billing information. This is a part-time, primarily remote position with benefits, and is a crucial part of the close-knit 48° North crew, a division of Northwest Maritime (NWM).
We love team members who are:
  • Superb relationship builders, within our team and throughout the boating community and industry.
  • Reliable and independently motivated, but who also thrive on collaboration and teamwork.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, meeting their own deadlines, and helping clients do the same.
  • Ultimately effective salespeople, bringing in revenue to enable the work of 48° North and NWM.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sell 48° North magazine advertisements, digital advertising products, special publications, and video sponsorships—and serve and support those client relationships.
  • Work with the 48N team to provide a customer-first advertising service experience, making sure we deliver on our promises. Provide timely, accurate information about bookings and billing, internally and externally.
  • Meet monthly sales targets.
  • Promote specialty and digital advertising products, and help develop new ones.
  • Collaborate with the 48N team to put out top-quality publications and media products.
  • Other duties as assigned.
GENERAL OPERATIONS
While the primary focus of this position is selling ads and providing service to clients, the 48° North Ad Sales Rep works as part of the entire NWM team, ensuring smooth operations. As a growing non-profit, we all pitch in for the heavy lifting, whether it's participating in all-hands projects and events, assisting visitors, or occasionally doing some literal heavy lifting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • The desire and ability to proactively build relationships and sell advertising with a mindset of mutual benefit—48N shares in and works toward the client’s needs and priorities.
  • Technical proficiency to learn and work in Salesforce for customer relationship management and advertising bookings, Adobe Acrobat for contracts, and in the Google Suite (sheets, docs, email, chat) for internal work and communications.
  • Organizational skills, self-direction, and attention to detail to be responsive to clients, meet deadlines, and prepare accurate documents to inform the 48N team who is advertising and to inform the Finance Department which clients should be billed and for how much.
  • Comfort and skill in all forms of communication: in-person, phone, email, text/chat.
  • Enthusiasm for boats, boat-folk, and the Pacific Northwest.
HELPFUL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Background in sales, especially advertising sales or publishing
  • Savvy with digital and social media
  • A critical eye to review advertising materials and assist with the magazine process
APPLICATION PROCESS
  • Submit your resume with the online application
  • Deadline for applications: Open until filled, application review begins June 24, 2026
WORK LOCATION amp; SCHEDULE
  • The position will be primarily remote, but includes visiting clients and prospects around the Salish Sea, some event presence, and occasional in-person meetings with the 48N/NWM team
  • NWM main offices are located at 431 Water St., Port Townsend, WA 98368, office and desk space available as needed
  • Position is part-time, 20 hours/week
  • Reports to: Managing Editor
WAGE RANGE amp; BENEFITS
  • $27 - $28 per hour, non-exempt, plus 10% commission on new client business for the first year of advertising and monthly sales bonus potential
  • 100% company paid Health, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance + contributions to HSA account
  • Matching contributions to a SIMPLE IRA retirement fund after 1 year of employment
  • Paid time off: accrues 2 weeks of vacation per year, 17 paid holidays in a calendar year, amp; 1 hour of sick time accrued for every 25 hours worked
  • Flexible schedule amp; employee discounts
  • Full details on benefits
