The Police Athletic League (PAL) of New York City is an independent youth development nonprofit organization and has been a vibrant and vital institution, serving as an effective, critical bridge between police and communities across all five boroughs of the City since 1914. PALย operatesย diverse programs for children as young as 2 years old to young adults. Programs include Head Start, after-school programs and summer day camps for elementary,ย middleย and high school youth, and summer Playstreets. PAL also runs evening teen centers and college readiness programs, youth employment, and juvenile justice programs. Staying true to PALโ€™s roots, a cornerstone of our youth development strategy includes offering competitive and recreational sports for children of all ages.ย ย At PAL,ย weโ€™reย devoted to empowering communities and building the best places to work, and that goes for our own teams too.ย 

In its 110th year, PAL continues to reimagine the agencyโ€™s leadership structure to ensure the next 110 years are nimble, strategic, responsive, and efficient.ย ย We are looking for Administrative Assistants to support out of school time programming and provide excellent customer service to the families and youth we serve.ย ย Locationsย mayย serve Elementaryย to High Schoolย youth throughย SEL,ย STEM, Literacy, Sports, Arts, Mental Health, and College and Career Access Programming.ย ย ย 

This position will be a key member ofย the leadership team and directly report to theย Elementaryย orย Middle Schoolย Director.ย ย 

Administrative Assistants are key toย establishingย and maintaining program quality by supporting frontline staff, Site Leadership, and PAL Headquarters in the effective implementation ofย back-officeย procedures.ย ย Familiarity with SACC regulations and DYCD funding requirements is a plus. We are looking for individuals who can listen,ย solve problems,ย andย expand opportunities for NYCโ€™s youth.ย ย ย As such:ย 

  • Candidates must be dedicated to learning and implementing Best Practices in the field of youth development.ย ย 

  • Candidates must be dedicated to supporting the ideas and opportunities of the youth, staff, and community.ย ย 

  • Candidates mustย possessย excellent communication and listening skills.ย ย 

Major Duties & Responsibilitiesย ย 

  1. Foster social and emotional competencies and mental and physical well-being in a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing environment.ย 

  1. Responsible for planning and implementing an efficient enrollment process that meets PALโ€™s target enrollment byย establishedย deadlines.ย ย 

  1. Creates andย maintainsย participant files that are aligned with SACC standardsย andย containย all relevant information for participants includingย medical needs of participants,ย IEPs, support plans, and logs.ย ย Ensure thatย Part-timeย staff are aware of students in their group thatย have IEPs andย shareย developed supportย plansย andย trackย logs.ย ย 

  1. Enterย attendance into PAL databases accurately and within established deadlines.ย ย 

  1. Answersย questionsย fromย parents and staff.ย Coordinates with the Principal, Director, Regional Director, and Headquarters to ensureย timelyย communication of important program data (calendars, registration numbers,ย etc.โ€ฆ).ย ย ย ย 

  1. Ensuresย the programโ€™s office procedures are aligned to strategicย objectivesย of PAL, PAL policies and procedures, agency programming calendar, SACC regulations, and the contractual obligations of government and privateย funding sources.ย ย 

  1. Respond appropriately when time-sensitive mental health services are needed such as suicide prevention, grief, and loss due to death or incarceration of a family member. Provide referrals toย appropriate mentalย health services as needed.ย 

  1. Leads compliance process for new PAL hires and orders, secures, and manages office supplies and equipment.ย ย ย 

What you Bring:ย 

  • A minimum of sixty credits towards a degree from an accredited college or university in administration or human resources.ย ย 

  • A minimum of 5 years of paid work experience in a non-profit youth or social service agency in an administrative or managerial capacity.ย ย ย 

  • Open toย learningย andย growing.ย ย All staff will be learning mental health, SEL, and special needs inclusion skills and expected to integrate them into programming.ย ย ย 

  • Microsoft office skillsย areย required.ย ย 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.ย ย Bi-lingual in Spanish, French, or Chinese preferred.ย ย ย 

  • Able to travel to any PAL location in the 5 Boroughs (for Professional Development days).ย 

  • Available for training opportunities outside of program hours.ย ย 

Compensation:ย The salary for this role is $21.00-23.00ย an hour.ย
