Job description

The Carpenters Training Center is looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Interior Systems and Blueprint Reading Instructor to join our team on a part-time basis. The Interior Systems and Blueprint Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and hands-on training to carpenter apprentices in the field of interior systems (drywall, ceilings, partitions, and related systems) and blueprint reading. The instructor plays a critical role in developing the technical skills, safety awareness, and trade knowledge of apprentices to prepare them for successful careers as union carpenters.
This position requires strong communication skills, a dedication to safety and quality, and a passion for educating the next generation of members.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Teach classroom and shop-based instruction on:
    • Interior systems (e.g., metal studs, drywall installation, acoustical ceilings, partitions)
    • Blueprint reading (construction drawings, specifications, symbols, scaling)
    • Layout and measurement techniques
    • Building codes and safety practices related to interior systems
  • Utilize union-approved curriculum and training standards.
  • Demonstrate proper tool usage, installation techniques, and material handling.

• Assess member progress, providing individualized feedback and support to foster growth and skill development.
• Remain current on industry advancements, tools, techniques, and trends related to door and hardware installation.
• Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment, adhering to all safety and quality standards.
• Communicate effectively with members, fostering engagement and motivation in the learning process.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
• Must be a member in Good Standing with The New York City District Council of Carpenters.
• High school diploma or equivalent; certifications in interior systems and blueprint reading or a related trade preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in Interior Systems and Blueprint Reading or a similar trade.
• Extensive experience reading and interpreting blueprints and construction documents.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage a diverse group of learners.
• Basic proficiency with PC and tablets, as well as related software for instructional purposes.
Skills & Abilities:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to analyze reports and data relevant to instructional outcomes.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing tasks through to completion.
• Able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
