What is the difference between Part Time 3D Modeling vs Part Time 3D Animation?
| Aspect | Part Time 3D Modeling | Part Time 3D Animation |
|---|---|---|
| Required Skills | Modeling, texturing, basic rendering | Modeling, rigging, animation, rendering |
| Work Environment | Design studios, freelance projects, remote work | Film, gaming, advertising, remote or studio work |
| Common Certifications | 3D modeling software certifications (e.g., Maya, Blender) | Same as modeling, plus animation-specific courses |
| Industry Usage | Product design, architecture, gaming assets | Character animation, visual effects, game cutscenes |
While both roles involve working with 3D software, Part Time 3D Modeling focuses on creating static models and assets, whereas Part Time 3D Animation emphasizes bringing models to life through movement and sequences. Position Details
- Position Type: Contract.
- Hours: Part-time, nominally 20 hours per week, with the potential to increase in hours and/or convert to a full-time position based on workload.
- Work Environment: Hybrid, with an expectation to work from our office 2-3 days per week
Questor is looking for an intermediate Mechanical Drafter to support the design and manufacturing of our existing incinerator product line and the development of our new product lines. Must have strong drawing skills in SolidWorks, along with basic knowledge and use of AutoCAD. You will produce and maintain the manufacturing, assembly, and fabrication drawings that bring our equipment to life, working closely with our engineering team in a collaborative setting. This is a contract position, and the role reports to the Director of Engineering.
Success in this role is defined as someone who partners effectively with the Engineering and Operations Team, is detail-oriented, organized, effective at prioritizing, able to manage multiple deliverables, and produces accurate, high-quality drawings with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality, with a desire to continually learn, grow, and contribute to the team.
Your Unique Skills
- Strong, hands-on SolidWorks skills; you produce clean, accurate, and well-organized 3D models and 2D drawings, and you take pride in the craft of drafting.
- Experience with AutoCAD in creating P&IDs and wiring diagrams.
- Detail-oriented and pragmatic; you are able to independently prioritize, organize, and manage multiple drawing packages and revisions.
- A collaborative team player with a can-do attitude that holds themselves to the high standards of quality and accountability Questor expects.
- Quick to adapt to new circumstances, with the initiative to work through ambiguity and ask the right questions.
- Comfortable working independently within a part-time, hybrid arrangement while staying closely coordinated with the engineering team.
- Professional communicator who exercises discretion with confidential information.
What You'll Do
- Produce manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly drawings in SolidWorks based on engineering direction, sketches, and markups.
- Create and maintain 3D models, 2D detail and general arrangement drawings, and bills of material (BOMs) for incinerators and related equipment.
- Revise and update existing models and drawings to reflect design changes, redlines, and continuous-improvement updates.
- Apply appropriate dimensioning, tolerancing (GD&T & ASME), and drafting standards so drawings are clear and ready for fabrication.
- Manage drawing files, revision control, and documentation in an organized and consistent manner.
- Collaborate with the Engineering, Operations, and Manufacturing teams to ensure drawings are accurate and practical to build, assemble, and install.
- Support the preparation of equipment specifications, datasheets, and fabrication packages.
- Incorporate feedback from design reviews and drawing checks and flag discrepancies or constructability concerns for engineering review.
What You Bring
Required
- Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting, 3-D Modeling, AutoCAD/CADD, or a related discipline.
- 3-6 years of relevant mechanical drafting experience.
- Strong, demonstrated proficiency with SolidWorks (3D modeling and 2D drawing production).
- Solid understanding of drafting standards, dimensioning, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T & AMSE).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent drawing packages and revisions.
Assets
