Part Night information

What is a part night?

Part Night jobs are positions that require employees to work during a portion of the nighttime hours, rather than a full overnight shift. These roles may involve working late evening hours or only partway through the night, often to accommodate business needs that extend beyond typical daytime operations. Part Night jobs are common in industries such as hospitality, healthcare, retail, and transportation. They can be ideal for individuals seeking flexible schedules or additional income outside of standard work hours. The specific hours and responsibilities vary depending on the employer and industry.

What are the typical responsibilities and challenges faced by someone working a part night shift?

In a part night shift role, employees often handle essential operational tasks during evening or overnight hours, such as monitoring security, restocking inventory, or providing customer service. Common challenges include adjusting to a non-traditional sleep schedule and maintaining productivity during quieter periods. Team communication is crucial, as part night workers regularly coordinate with both the outgoing day shift and the incoming overnight staff to ensure smooth transitions and continuity in workflow. This role can offer opportunities to develop time management skills and may provide pathways to full-time night positions or team leadership roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part night worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Night Worker, you need reliability, time management, and the ability to work independently, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with scheduling systems, security protocols, or relevant equipment (depending on the industry) is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for handling late hours and unexpected situations. These skills ensure efficiency, safety, and smooth operations during non-standard working hours.

Part Night workers typically handle customer service and basic tasks during evening hours, often in hospitality settings. Night Auditors focus on financial reconciliation, auditing, and reporting at night, requiring some accounting knowledge. While both roles operate during night shifts in hotels, Part Night roles are more customer service-oriented, whereas Night Auditors handle financial tasks. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right position based on skills and career goals.

Job description

Night Audit (Brand New Hotel)
Lights low, computers glowing, and calm efficiency in the air - that's where you thrive. At TownePlace Suites by Marriott, our Night Audit/Front Desk Agent keeps the late night and early morning running smoothly while still delivering warm, thoughtful guest service.
This role is perfect for someone who loves numbers just a little, enjoys helping guests, and is energized by being part of something brand new. And since we're opening a brand-new hotel, you won't just join the team - you'll help shape it.
From 11:00 pm-7:00 am, you'll blend basic audit responsibilities with front desk support to ensure our overnight shift is accurate, efficient, and guest-centric.
As a Night Audit & Front Desk Agent, you will:
  • Be a key part of the opening team of our brand-new TownePlace Suites by Marriott
  • Own the night shift (11 pm-7 am), running basic audit procedures that keep daily revenue, cash, and credit transactions balanced and in order
  • Close out the day with accuracy - including reviewing activity, preparing nightly reports, and verifying that everything ties out
  • Provide overnight Front Desk support: welcoming late arrivals, handling check-ins/check-outs, answering phones, and assisting with guest needs
  • Maintain a calm, professional presence that reinforces our brand's reputation for genuine service - day or night
  • Troubleshoot and solve problems with confidence, whether it's a billing question or a pillow request at 2 am

What You Bring
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort with basic math and audit tasks
  • Excellent English communication skills - reading, writing, and speaking fluently
  • Confidence using computers and various hotel software systems
  • The ability to stay focused, organized, and upbeat during overnight hours
  • Physical stamina to stand, move, and occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds

Perks of the Night
  • A quieter work environment where your contributions are visible and valued
  • A chance to help launch a brand-new hotel and build processes from the ground up
  • The satisfaction of keeping both our books-and our guests-happy

Ready to help us open the doors, balance the books, and make nights memorable? We can't wait to meet you.
