What is a part night?

Part Night jobs are positions that require employees to work during a portion of the nighttime hours, rather than a full overnight shift. These roles may involve working late evening hours or only partway through the night, often to accommodate business needs that extend beyond typical daytime operations. Part Night jobs are common in industries such as hospitality, healthcare, retail, and transportation. They can be ideal for individuals seeking flexible schedules or additional income outside of standard work hours. The specific hours and responsibilities vary depending on the employer and industry.

What are the typical responsibilities and challenges faced by someone working a part night shift?

In a part night shift role, employees often handle essential operational tasks during evening or overnight hours, such as monitoring security, restocking inventory, or providing customer service. Common challenges include adjusting to a non-traditional sleep schedule and maintaining productivity during quieter periods. Team communication is crucial, as part night workers regularly coordinate with both the outgoing day shift and the incoming overnight staff to ensure smooth transitions and continuity in workflow. This role can offer opportunities to develop time management skills and may provide pathways to full-time night positions or team leadership roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part night worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Night Worker, you need reliability, time management, and the ability to work independently, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with scheduling systems, security protocols, or relevant equipment (depending on the industry) is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for handling late hours and unexpected situations. These skills ensure efficiency, safety, and smooth operations during non-standard working hours.

Part Night workers typically handle customer service and basic tasks during evening hours, often in hospitality settings. Night Auditors focus on financial reconciliation, auditing, and reporting at night, requiring some accounting knowledge. While both roles operate during night shifts in hotels, Part Night roles are more customer service-oriented, whereas Night Auditors handle financial tasks. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right position based on skills and career goals.

Job description

At The Queen's Cue and Crescent Hotels & Resorts, we are a team of hospitality professionals that are deeply connected to & proud of the exceptional experiences we provide for our guests. More than that, we know our Associates are the shining stars of what we do!

We understand what it takes to be a part of something great. Job Summary

The Queen’s Cue, a Marriott Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Night Watch - Night Auditor to join our Front Office team in Stratford.

At The Queen’s Cue, the Night Watch is the steady presence that carries the hotel from one day into the next. Inspired by the traditional role of those entrusted to keep watch through the night, our Night Watch ensures the hotel remains welcoming, secure, organized, and ready for whatever the overnight hours may bring.

Part guest host, part problem solver, and part keeper of the day’s final details, you will support guests throughout the night while completing the daily audit, reconciling activity, and preparing the hotel for a seamless start to the morning.

Does this sound like you?

You are calm, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership when much of the hotel has gone quiet. You work well independently, trust your judgment, and know when to act, when to investigate, and when something needs to be escalated.

Your night may include welcoming late-arriving guests, completing check-ins and check-outs, managing reservations and payments, responding to guest requests, and handling the unexpected with professionalism and discretion. Alongside the guest experience, you will complete the nightly audit process, reconcile accounts and transactions, prepare reports, investigate discrepancies, and ensure the day is accurately closed after the next one begins.

You are confident with numbers and technology, organized in your approach, and naturally attentive to detail. Above all, you take pride in being the person who keeps watch over the hotel after hours - ensuring guests feel cared for, the operation remains secure, and the morning team arrives to a hotel that is balanced, prepared, and ready for a new day.

What We Offer

  • An exceptional benefit plan for eligible associates & your family members.
  • RRSP matching program for eligible associates.
  • Flexible scheduling to support work-life balance.
  • Hourly rate of $20.00.
  • 50% dining discount at The Queen’s Cue and The Boar’s Head Pub.
  • Discounts with Crescent managed properties in North America, and Marriott Worldwide for you & your family members.
  • A workplace that you can be proud of, where you are valued, trusted and supported by the team.

Qualifications

  • Previous hotel Front Office, Night Audit, accounting, or customer service experience is an asset.
  • Strong numerical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies.
  • Excellent communication and guest service skills with a calm and professional approach.
  • A self-motivated approach with the confidence to work independently and take ownership of the overnight shift.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn hotel property management, payment, reporting, and reservation systems.
  • Ability to accurately reconcile financial transactions, guest accounts, cash, and daily revenue activity.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining accuracy.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidential guest and financial information.
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to guest concerns, operational issues, or unexpected situations overnight.
  • Flexibility and availability to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays.

We welcome applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process. This posting represents a current vacancy and Crescent Hotels & Resorts does not use artificial intelligence to screen, assess, and/or select applicants.

At Crescent Hotels & Resorts we strive to create a great place to work where associates at all levels of our organization are respected for their differences, just like the guests and owners we serve. That’s why we are dedicated to creating an environment that facilitates open and honest conversations about race, equity, diversity, and inclusion. By examining our own beliefs and behaviors, we can create change through training, recruiting, and promoting diverse talent to strengthen our culture.
