Job description

Class Title: Parks and Recreation Director
Reports To: Mayor
Department: Parks and Recreation
Classification: Exempt
Grade: To be determined

Primary Responsibility
  • Develop strategic plan for the development, organization, and implementation of a comprehensive sports and recreation program.
  • Develop new and innovative programs, supervise scheduled activities, and recruit participants in all activities.
  • Develop and administer budgets for all revenue and expenses.\
  • Develop and implement procedures to account for revenue and expenses that are paid or handled internally.
  • Develop and implement procedures for the purchase, maintenance, and inventory of all equipment and supplies.
  • Develop policies and procedures to oversee maintenance of all facilities and grounds.
  • Director must be accessible and responsive in communications with all program participants.
  • Director will assist in local, state, and federal grant writing.
  • Director shall perform any and all duties pertaining to the operations of the park.
  • Director shall implement programs to promote adult participation.
Experience

Any experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job. Must have good oral and written skills.

Typical Working Conditions

Work is generally performed outdoors with some office setting. Some travel and night meetings may be required. May be required to work extended hours as needed. Vacation time must be approved by the mayor and be taken at times when least interferes with scheduled activities.

Licensing

Must have valid driver’s license for the state of Kentucky.

Essential Job Functions

With or without accommodations, this employee must be physically capable of conversation and instruction with park patrons, employees, other county staff, and general public. Visually monitors staff and park patrons for appropriate actions. Be capable of walking on various type of terrain in all climate conditions. Will occasionally lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds.
