Job description

St. Jane Frances De Chantal Parish is hiring a Maintenance Custodian.
This is a full time role and will report to the Pastor.
The Maintenance Custodian supports the daily operations of the parish and school by performing preventive maintenance, responding to service requests, and ensuring a clean, safe, and orderly environment. This role includes both indoor and outdoor duties in all weather conditions. Standard hours are 8:00 a.m.โ€“4:00 p.m., with flexibility based on building needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

The responsibilities below outline the primary scope of the role. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.

  • Use approved internal communication methods (e.g., cell phone) at the start of each shift to ensure efficient operations. Respond promptly to prioritized or escalated requests from the Facilities Manager.
  • Perform routine cleaning and general maintenance throughout the facilities, including cafeteria, elevator, gymnasium, classrooms, hallways, stairwells, offices, and other areas. Tasks include sweeping, mopping, buffing, burnishing, stripping and waxing floors, carpet cleaning, trash collection, and cleaning windows and walls.
  • Maintain and clean restrooms; report leaks, nonworking sinks, toilets, or urinals to the Facilities Manager.
  • Identify areas or equipment needing repair; report supply needs; complete minor repairs as assigned.
  • Perform grounds maintenance, including landscaping, lawn mowing, leaf removal, and snow/ice removal using shovels, snow blowers, and icemelt products.
  • Complete basic painting and touchups as needed.
  • Maintain clean and organized mechanical rooms.
  • Follow all safety rules, policies, and procedures; work in a selfdirected and responsible manner.
  • Check in with the Facilities Manager at the end of each shift to review completed tasks and building conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor and/or Facilities Manager.

Skills & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform lightduty electrical, HVAC, plumbing, painting, plastering, drywall, and carpentry repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to kneel, crawl, lie down, climb ladders, and lift 40โ€“50 lbs.
  • Reliable, respectful, positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, good listener, and detailoriented.
  • Must fulfill requirements of Archdiocesan Child Protection Policy, including passing a background check.
