Parcel Audit information

What does a parcel audit do?

A parcel audit involves reviewing shipping invoices and carrier bills to identify overcharges, billing errors, or discrepancies in parcel delivery costs. Parcel auditors analyze shipping data, often using specialized software, to ensure companies are billed accurately and recover any overpaid amounts.

What are some typical challenges faced in a parcel audit role, and how are they addressed within the team?

In a Parcel Audit role, one common challenge is managing and reconciling large volumes of shipping data from multiple carriers, each with different formats and billing practices. Team members often collaborate closely to standardize data, spot discrepancies, and ensure accurate audit results. Effective use of specialized audit software and clear communication with both the logistics and finance departments are key strategies for overcoming these challenges. Regular team meetings and process updates help ensure everyone is aligned and able to address any new issues quickly.

What is parcel audit and why is it important?

Parcel audit is the process of reviewing shipping invoices and tracking data to identify errors, such as incorrect charges, late deliveries, or unclaimed refunds from carriers like FedEx and UPS. This process helps businesses recover money lost to billing mistakes and ensures that they are only paying for accurate shipping costs. Regular parcel audits can lead to significant savings, improved shipping efficiency, and better carrier contract negotiations.

What is the difference between Parcel Audit vs Freight Auditor?

AspectParcel AuditFreight Auditor

Search & Comparison IntentPeople compare to freight auditors to understand scope and responsibilitiesOften compared to parcel auditors for similar roles in freight

Parcel Auditors focus on verifying and optimizing parcel shipping costs, while Freight Auditors handle larger freight shipments and billing. Both roles require logistics knowledge and certifications, but they differ in scope and industry focus. Understanding these differences helps employers and job seekers identify the right role within the supply chain and logistics sectors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a parcel auditor?

To thrive as a Parcel Auditor, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of shipping operations, often supported by experience in logistics or supply chain management. Familiarity with parcel auditing software, Excel, and carrier invoicing systems is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and organizational skills help professionals excel in reviewing and disputing shipping errors. These competencies are critical for identifying cost-saving opportunities, ensuring billing accuracy, and streamlining shipping processes.

Type: Long-term Contract (6 months to start)
Work Mode: Hybrid - Monday to Thursday in-office, Friday WFH
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Manager with a strong background in transportation management systems and hands-on expertise in LTL (Less Than Truckload) and parcel initiatives. This role requires a blend of technical product management skills, domain knowledge in transportation networks, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering and business stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead product initiatives within transportation projects, with a focus on LTL and parcel operations.
  • Manage and enhance transportation management systems (experience with Descartes is a plus).
  • Oversee carrier onboarding for domestic networks and ensure smooth integration with 3PL partners.
  • Support projects involving freight audit vendor organization, EDI requirements, and new vendor integrations.

  • Ensure compliance with international transportation requirements, including EDI differences and country-specific regulations (England and Canada experience is a plus).
  • Partner with stakeholders to drive feature development, system upgrades, and operational improvements.
  • Facilitate effective communication across business, operations, and technical teams.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 7+ years of technical product management experience.
  • Strong background in transportation management systems and 3PL networks.
  • Hands-on experience with LTL and parcel transportation projects (LTL preferred over general logistics).
  • Familiarity with international transportation requirements, including EDI differences and country-specific compliance.
  • Proven ability to onboard new carriers and manage vendor integrations.
  • Day-to-day experience in Agile environments, including requirement gathering, writing user stories, and working with development teams (Jira proficiency required).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Technical orientation - ability to work closely with engineers, not just from a business/operations perspective.
  • Transportation initiatives around LTL and parcel delivery.
  • Active projects include freight audit vendor organization, EDI requirement management, and new vendor integrations.
  • Exposure to drop ship, parcel, LTL, home delivery, and doorstep delivery models.
