Applicants must possess an Associates Degree or the equivalent sixty (60) college credits or show proof of having passed the ETS Para Pro Assessment to be eligible for this position.

Reports To: Special Education Supervisor/Building Administration
Job Summary:
East Hartford Public School (EHPS) Paraeducators provide instructional and behavioral support to students under the direction and supervision of student service administration. The primary role is to assist in the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) and support the physical, emotional, and educational needs of students in various instructional settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Under the supervisor of a teacher/supervisor, prepare, organize, and distribute instructional materials and equipment to ensure student accessibility and engagement.
  2. Assist in maintaining an organized, safe, and productive student work environment.
  3. Support student learning and assist in the implementation of curriculum-based activities.
  4. Reinforce academic and behavioral lessons initially introduced by the teacher, working with students individually or in small groups.
  5. Support students' physical and emotional needs, including mobility assistance, self-care, and emotional regulation.
  6. Score objective tests and student assignments, and assist in the preparation of instructional and adaptive materials under the supervision of the teacher.
  7. Supervise and assist students during field trips, on the playground, and during lunch periods.
  8. Assist students on and off school buses or vans safely and efficiently.
  9. Support students during scheduled classes including specialized areas such as music, art, and physical education.
  10. Serve as a key source of continuity and support for substitute teachers by providing information about classroom routines, student needs, and instructional activities.
  11. Communicate regularly with the classroom teacher to align on goals, student progress, and instructional strategies.
  12. Participate in professional development and in-service training as assigned.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor, supervising teacher or administrator.

Terms of Employment:
Salary and benefits in accordance with the negotiation agreement between the East Hartford Public Schools and the East Hartford Federation of Paraeducators. Hourly rate $18.21 - $24.87 with additional wage differentials as applicable.
