Job description

Position Title: 

Journeyman Level Mechanic

Pay Rate: $40.23

Category/Shift: 

Hourly Full-Time (Shift: TBD)

The Job You Will Perform: 

Primary duties of the Journeyman Level Mechanic position include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the facility's equipment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
  • Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities.
  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.
  • Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.

Job Conditions

  • Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt are present due to the equipment and machinery. Safety shoes, hearing protection, Safety Glasses and face shields must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards. Travel is not required for this position.
  • Handling multiple issues regarding safety and maintenance increases pressure. Work load may be unpredictable and pressure can be substantial during peak times. Critical deadlines require considerable adaptability. Disturbances of work flow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Extra hours may be required, sometimes on weekends, weekdays, and holidays.

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions

  • Ability to: lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally; crouch or bend at the knees occasionally to increase visibility; climb up to 60 vertical steps occasionally; stoop or bend at the waist occasionally to increase visibility; reach at arm's length frequently or overhead occasionally; twist and turn at the neck and trunk; walk frequently on uneven ground; handle and grasp tools and parts continually; communicate by speech and hearing continually. Visual acuity needed for close detail work. Mental dexterity needed as Electrician will work independently while demonstrating attention to detail and continuous awareness.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • High school degree or GED, or equivalent experience; 
  • Candidates that possess a technical degree or apprenticeship certification are preferred;
  • Prior experience working in a manufacturing production environment; experience working in packaging manufacturing industry is preferred;
  • At least 2 years of prior industrial maintenance experience is highly preferred.
  • Must be willing to work either of the available shifts (listed at top);
  • Must be willing to work weekends and overtime as required (sometimes with short notice);

  • Proven track record on safety and quality;
  • Solid mechanical aptitude, and basic math skills;
  • Ability to interface with computer and enter data into various software platforms; Previous CMMS experience desired;
  • Demonstrated work performance to be self-directed and self-motivated;
  • Ability to follow written instructions and procedures as outlined, consistently and reliably in accordance with all safety quality expectations;
  • Professional attitude and good communication skills.
