Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP's short-term incentive plan.

The Job You Will Perform:

International Paper's Springfield, OR paper mill has an opening for a Reliability Engineer. The Reliability Engineer's role is vital to the improvement of equipment and process reliability. Reliability engineering is the enhancement of traditional maintenance engineering with a portion of process engineering to eliminate equipment and system failures.  A successful reliability engineer will be able to interact with all parts of the organization and work hand in hand with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering.  A successful candidate must have a passion for continuous improvement and drive to resolve problems. Position will have on-call responsibilities and report directly to the Reliability Manager. 

  • Improve maintenance strategies/efficiencies, and overall equipment reliability, through the use of RCM and IP GMS methodologies. FMEA will be conducted on Critical 9 equipment.

  • Assist Mill Teams with the implementation and sustaining of GMS Reliability sub-elements.

  • Improve Reliability of equipment in their area through execution of Action Items from Preventable Chronic Failures (PCF's), RCFA's, and constrained area down time (CADT) events. 

  • Develop, execute, and sustain Reliability Deliberate Improvement Projects. 

  • Support the Tank & Vessel Lead on mill inspection/repairs of tanks, pressure vessels, PRV's, integrity items, and major rotating equipment.

  • Champion the element of "Design for Reliability" in all capital and repair jobs.

  • Lead and participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions are put in place to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Develop and continuously refine asset maintenance strategies to prevent equipment failures and eliminate unscheduled equipment downtime.

  • Lead small maintenance projects (capital and expense). Be involved in the planning and creation of new projects.

  • Lead Predictive and Preventive Maintenance (PdM & PM) activities in designated area as an advocate.

  • Own the Project Schedules around the PMO/DCO and TMO's. Ensure compliance with the mill standard on our schedules. 

  • Lead and maintain Area Top 5 Preventable and Chronic list.

  • Lead at least once a week in the MWS meetings an agenda of the items in this list that need to be part of the area team (RCFA, Chronics, CADT, Action Items, PdM, GMS, etc.).

  • Be an advocate for Reliable Methods and QA\QC compliance. 

  • Become a "Certified Reliability Professional" by successfully completing the training course.

Qualifications include: 

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years' experience at manufacturing facility
  • Experience with reliability improvement methods, technologies and tools
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple projects
  • Proficient with Microsoft and SAP PM Applications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have good interpersonal skills with ability to interact at all levels
