Job description

Laborer, Grounds Maintenance 

Primary responsibility to perform grounds maintenance within the confines of the bulk storage areas. Maintain grounds, shrubs, and trees to comply with contract requirements.

Responsible for cleaning and maintaining all areas within the work site.  Performance includes: Cutting grass using walking-type or riding mowers.  Drives gasoline or diesel-powered tractor to move materials, draw implements, tow trailers, pull out objects embedded in ground, or pull cable of winch to raise, lower, or load heavy material or equipment.  Trimming hedges and edging grass around walks, building foundations, using hedge trimmers, clippers and edging tools.  Prune shrubs and trees using shears and other hand tools.  Pick up and cart away grass clippings, leaves, paper or other litter.  Assist in sweeping as well as removing snow from walks, driveways, roads, or parking lots, using broom, shovel and snow blower.  Spread salt on walkways and other areas.

Knowledgeable of operating characteristics of equipment required to complete the above tasks, e.g., lawn mowers, common garden tools, snow shovels, high pressure power washer or other devices.

Able to fasten attachments such as mower decks, plows, angle deck attachment mowers (over 2000 lbs.),to tractor.  Adjusts equipment for proper operation.  Lubricates and makes minor repairs to tractor and attachments such as tightening bolts, and replacing washers, cotter pins, and screws.

Physical Requirements:  Must be capable of climbing ladders, lifting medium weights, stooping, bending, standing, kneeling and walking.  Must be able to use power and commercial equipment associated with the duties.  Capable of working without direct supervision.

Environmental Exposure: Working outdoors in varied weather conditions (sun, rain, cold, snow) and exposure to dust, fumes, noise, and odors.
