Job Summary:

The Small Machine (Cutter) Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining paper cutting equipment to trim printed materials accurately and efficiently according to job specifications. This role ensures finished materials meet quality, safety, and production standards while minimizing waste.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate bindery cutting equipment (e.g., guillotine cutters, programmable paper cutters) according to job tickets and specifications
  • Read and interpret work orders, including trim sizes, paper stock, quantities, and grain direction
  • Program cutter settings or manually adjust back gauge, blade depth, and clamps as required
  • Measure and verify cut accuracy using rulers, gauges, or calipers
  • Perform quality checks throughout production to ensure finished product meets specifications
  • Monitor cutter performance and make adjustments to maintain efficiency and precision
  • Perform routine maintenance, blade changes, cleaning, and lubrication following safety procedures
  • Follow all safety requirements, including proper use of guards, two-hand controls, and lockout/tagout
  • Troubleshoot basic mechanical issues and report concerns to maintenance or supervision
  • Maintain accurate production records and documentation
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
  • Coordinate with press, bindery, and quality teams to meet production schedules
  • Performs other related duties andparticipatesin special projects as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous bindery or printing experience preferred
  • Experience operating paper cutting equipment strongly preferred
  • Ability to read job tickets and use precision measuring tools (ruler, calipers, gauges)
  • Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Teamwork and communication
  • Safety awareness and compliance
