Job description

Manufacturing Engineer - Facility
Paint, Manufacturing Engineering Department
Position Summary:
The Facility Engineer leads the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of plant systems and infrastructure supporting paint operations. This role owns automation platforms, critical facility assets, and capital engineering programs that enable safe, reliable, and cost-effective production. The Facility Engineer drives modernization initiatives, including automation and digitalization, to improve asset performance, scalability, and long-term resource efficiency.
Outline of Duties:
  • Monitor paint robot performance on an ongoing basis, analyzing process data to identify opportunities for cycle time improvement and material reduction.
  • Optimize paint robot programming and application parameters to improve transfer efficiency, reduce paint consumption, and minimize waste.
  • Lead paint robot activities during new model development programs, coordinating the implementation of new vehicle models and/or new color introductions to ensure process readiness and quality conformance.
  • Serve as the engineering lead for new paint robot equipment installations, bridging facility and process responsibilities - guiding mechanical and utility integration through to full process commissioning and production sign-off.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of the end-to-end paint process and proactively identify opportunities for quality improvement, cost reduction, and process standardization.
  • Serve as a technical resource and guide for paint process improvement initiatives, providing engineering analysis and recommendations to operations and quality teams.
  • Track and report key paint process performance indicators, including first-run quality, material consumption, and robot uptime, to drive data-based decision making.
  • Own and lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of facility systems supporting paint operations, including automation platforms, material handling systems, and critical infrastructure.
  • Develop long-term facility automation roadmaps aligned with plant business objectives, capacity requirements, and cost targets.
  • Lead capital projects related to facility upgrades, automation installations, and infrastructure modernization, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and execution.
  • Partner with controls, robotics, IT, and maintenance teams to deploy scalable automation architectures and standardized technical solutions.
  • Identify systemic risks and constraints within facility systems (safety, quality, capacity, or cost) and lead cross-functional countermeasures.
  • Conduct technical assessments and audits of facility systems to ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and internal engineering guidelines.
  • Manage external vendors and integrators, including technical reviews, design approvals, installation oversight, and performance validation.
  • Lead root cause analysis and recovery efforts for major facility-related failures impacting safety, production continuity, or quality.
  • Develop and maintain professional technical documentation for facility systems, including standards, layouts, control philosophies, and validation records.
  • Utilize CAD and digital engineering tools to support facility layout planning, automation concepts, and infrastructure design.
  • Own project master schedules and capital budgets for facility engineering initiatives, ensuring alignment with plant priorities and financial targets.
  • Act as a technical liaison between operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership to ensure facility systems effectively support production needs.
  • Drive continuous improvement of facility systems through modernization, standardization, and technology adoption to enhance throughput, consistency, and sustainability.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree plus 1 - 3 years relevant experience or 5 - 7 years relevant experience
    • Engineering Technology or Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
