Summary of the role

The Manufacturing Engineer II provides technical knowledge to support achieving Operational Excellence in the manufacturing processes. This role establishes product build standards, optimizes material workflow within the work cell, develops job aids, and continuously improves assembly processes to deliver an on-time quality product to the customer. The Manufacturing Engineer is the liaison between other engineering organizations and the Operations team to address customer quality issues, integrate new products into manufacturing, and collaborate on design improvements for existing products.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and improve manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of product design, assembly techniques, ergonomic principles and quality controls to poka-yoke production builds
  • Participate in the investigation, response, and corrective actions to customer quality excursions.
  • Recommendation design changes for materials and components through Engineering Change Request process
  • Champion key strategic projects relating to Operational Excellence activities
  • Embrace and enhance established standard work practices for Manufacturing Engineering
  • Identify, develop and implement complete and accurate documentation of existing manufacturing processes and new product introductions.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods, establishing standards, and validating manufacturing processes
  • Evaluate work cell layouts to improve manpower efficiency, material workflow and floor space utilizing Lean techniques.
  • Collaborate with New Product Development Engineering to review designs, participate in pilot builds and develop the plan to release new products into manufacturing
  • Collaborate with Inventory Control on optimizing product flow to and from the workbenches and within the 4 walls of the site.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements
Detail-oriented, self-starter with strong communication and organizational skills. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to multi-task and work collaboratively and independently in a dynamic environment. The required qualifications are as follows:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or Related Engineering Technology degree
  • In lieu of a degree, 8 years of related experience will be considered
  • 3- 5 years experience in manufacturing engineering

Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with SAP a plus
  • Experience with GD&T dimensioning practices
  • Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Experience with formalized risk analysis procedures (PFMEA)
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability procedures
  • Experience with Stage Gate processes a plus
  • Experience with Capital Equipment specification & purchasing a plus
  • Experience with 3D printing a plus
  • Hands on mechanical skills a plus
  • Good communication skills
  • Good organizational skills to manage multiple priorities at one time
