SUMMARY OF POSITION: A Duneland School Corporation substitute bus driver is required to operate all school vehicles in a safe and lawful manner. This position has a highly responsible role in transporting and dealing with students and staff on a regular basis. Bus drivers interact with individuals both inside and outside of the corporation and therefore, must have the ability to present a professional and organized image at all times.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Prior to becoming a Duneland School Corporation bus driver, a valid commercial drivers' license (CDL) is required. This license must be authorized by the State of Indiana. Must be 21 years of age.The following endorsements of said CDL are required:
- Passenger Endorsement
- School Bus Endorsement
- Air Brake Endorsement
Duneland will train if necessary.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES - Respond to requests of information and services in a prompt, efficient and friendly manner.
- Provide exceptional level of customer service to all students, community members, teachers, co-workers and other staff members (These employees must be assured their needs are met in a professional, friendly and timely manner.)
- Observe safety and security procedures
- Use s equipment and materials properly
- Must establish and maintain student discipline in a firm but respectful manner
- Transportation Department employees are required to attend all in-service training
- Bus drivers must accept all delegated authority
- Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Substitute drivers are eligible to become Contracted Drivers with benefits.
