Job description

Would you like to be part of a dynamic forward leaning team that provides fire, emergency medical and rescue services in Alaska's best mountain recreation community? Are you a person that likes hard work, learning new skills, working and driving in Alaska weather, teamwork and meeting new people?
Do you like a positive workplace of team members coming together to practice and use lifesaving skills, continuous learning and quality improvement while providing rewarding and compassionate customer service to the Girdwood community?
We welcome applications from individuals would would like to serve the community of Girdwood as a paid on call firefighter! No experience is necessary, we offer on the job training in firefighting and emergency medical services. Paid on call firefighters attend training on Tuesday nights and provide 48 hours of shift coverage per month. Firefighters are required to train for a minimum of 100 hours per year to maintain skills and certifications. A background check from the Alaska Department of Public Safety and a driving record from the Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles is required to be submitted along with a resume and cover letter at the time of application.
We are accepting applications thru September 15, 2026 or when 20 have been received. We start 6-8 new members on a 6 month probation period twice a year. Must be 18 years or older to apply. The Fall 2026 new members training dates (required) are: November 7,8,14 and 15 and December 5 and 6, 2026: 9-5pm each day.
