Job description

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. PLEASE DETAIL RELEVANT WORK HISTORY WHEN APPLYING.

SCHEDULE Monday-Friday 6:00 AM- 2:00PM

SUMMARY Responsible for operating sit-down industrial lift truck (forklift) and or electric ride-on or walk behind hand jacks to perform a variety of lifting and moving tasks within potato packing and shipping warehouses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Learn and perform specific safety and operational procedures for each type of forklift used in the warehouse, including daily inspection, changing of batteries and/or propane tanks, and troubleshooting of maintenance issues.
  • Report any damage of truck before loading or unloading.
  • Learn P.O. # system utilized in the potato packing shed as well as the inventory system and utilizing scan guns to obtain inventory.
  • Follow the Good Manufacturing Practices utilized in the potato packing shed.
  • Depending upon area assigned on a daily basis, tasks could include but are not limited to:
    • Moving finished pallets away from packing lines/tote dumper
    • Re-supplying empty pallets to packing lines/keeping bins filled
    • Supplying packing lines with potatoes by either emptying totes or bin boxes into hopper(s).
    • Moving full bin boxes away from washer and/or sizer, and re-supplying empty boxes/tote dumper.
    • Bins must be removed in all weather conditions.
    • Assist with unloading incoming product, assuring that product is properly labeled, safely stacked, and stored in designated area.
    • Assist with loading/unloading outgoing/incoming trucks, which includes assuring that each outgoing pallet is properly labeled, picking/stacking and scanning orders, and properly placing pallets on truck in manner that they will ride securely.
    • Report damaged pallets, product, or packaging.
    • Coordinate dumping of product into bin boxes and monitor counts. Separate and scan labeled items.
    • Supply packing lines with empty bags and other packaging supplies.
    • Properly place product in rack. Train others how to do so. Ensure broken pallets are not put in rack.
    • Follow product usage guide.
    • Alert supervisor of possible old inventory. When identified, move to front to make more visible.
    • Assist during planting and harvest seasons with loading and unloading bulk field trucks, moving seed and harvested product, monitoring and mapping storage for product and seed.
    • Assist with keeping coolers, bays, dock areas and main packing floor areas neat and sanitary: removing broken pallets and bin boxes, emptying garbage barrels and boxes, sweeping and keeping garbage build-up to a minimum.
    • Keep product within coolers rotated on first-in, first-out basis.
    • Keep bag storage areas clean and organized.
    • Ensure overhead doors are closed.
    • Must read and understand written instructions on what needs to be done as well as write legibly.
    • Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must have flexibility in schedule as well as traveling (Working at other company properties)


SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help perform general plant cleaning and sanitation as well as outside areas.
  • Identify good vs. bad pallets and bins.
  • If trained and qualified, assist with jockeying trucks around facility.
  • If trained and qualified, utilize snowplow to assist with facility snow removal.
  • Perform other tasks as requested during slower times including assisting where necessary in all aspects of the potato packing process.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
