We are looking for a Material Handler. As the Material Handler you will be responsible for the seamless processing of outgoing and incoming shipments, perform any and all tasks deemed necessary including but not limited to operating a variety of hand and power tools, equipment and machinery.  The incumbent must understand the impact of this position to other business functions that depend on the accuracy and efficiency of outgoing items.

The hourly rate for this position is $21/hr, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity. This range is provided to ensure clarity and promote equitable access to employment opportunities.

Responsibilities

When your actions lead to success:

  • Unload, sort and distribute incoming shipments. Receive products, inspect material for quality, accuracy and process packing slips;
  • Inspect and verify incoming goods against invoices or other documents, record shortages and reject damaged goods;
  • Route received good to its final destination;
  • Communicate with all departments as to goods received and address any non-conformance(s);
  • Maintain internal, manual or computerized record-keeping systems;
  • Load trucks when required;
  • Oversee the secure and accurate loading and unloading of deliveries;
  • Manage inventory of shipping materials and supplies;
  • Know safe storage and handling procedures for various chemicals and materials;
  • Provide exceptional service to vendors and Customers;
  • Perform quality audits of the condition of shipped goods for both incoming and outgoing items prior to signing off;
  • Report discrepancies to immediate supervisor;
  • Ensure that shipments contain proper documentation and if multiple items per shipment, ensure item lists are complete;
  • Problem solve for any cases of missing documents, shipments and deliveries;
  • Maintain organized work area according to policies, procedures and safety regulations;
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and effective manner, change over, preventative maintenance, start up and shut down procedures;
  • Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation and carriage of goods;
  • As required, provide training to new and/or junior employees with a focus on performing work in a safe, efficient, quality minded manner;
  • Location, shifts, duties and responsibilities may be amended from time to time in order to support efficient company operations
  • May assist in the development of work instructions and practices.
  • Ensure your specific work area is a safe work environment, free from hazards, dirt and debris;
  • Available for overtime in order to meet our customer needs as required.
  • Support and contribute to a healthy and safe work environment by following all workplace regulations,policies, and initiatives, including reporting all first aid injuries, acidents and workplace hazards.
  • Additional duties as assingned.
Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent;
  • A minimum of two (2) years' experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment in print is preferred;
  • Must hold a valid Forklift, Counterbalance, Reach Truck and ride on Walkie operation certificate in good standing, where equipment certification is required;
  • Computer literacy, including working skills of Excel and e-mail;
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (max. 50 lbs), walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labour;
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Proven organizational skills;
  • Commitment to quality and safety;
  • Able to work well in a team environment;
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as required.
