Job description

Position Overview
The Packaging Assistant provides foundational support to the Manager of Product Packaging by assisting with packaging documentation, data tracking, quality coordination, and process support. This role helps ensure packaging standards, specifications, and workflows are accurately documented and followed while gaining hands-on experience in retail packaging operations. The Packaging Assistant collaborates with internal Buying teams, Quality, Marketing, and external vendors to support packaging execution, quality control, cost tracking, and sustainability initiatives, including basic support for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance activities. This role is ideal for an early career professional looking to build knowledge in packaging materials, processes, and retail operations.
A Day In The Life
Packaging Standards & Documentation Support
  • Assist in building and maintaining the company's packaging standards library, including packaging specifications, materials, and approved formats.
  • Help organize, update, and version-control packaging documentation so it is easily accessible to buyers and vendors.
  • Packaging Specifications - Enter and update packaging data accurately in internal systems such as PLM or shared documentation tools.

Packaging Process Support
  • Support the packaging request process by logging buyer requests, tracking status, and coordinating next steps under management guidance.
  • Act as a point of coordination between buyers, vendors, and internal teams for packaging samples, specifications, and documents.
  • Ensure packaging requests follow established processes and are routed correctly for review and approval.

Educational Materials & Admin Support
  • Assist with updating buyer-facing packaging manuals, guidelines, and reference tools.
  • Help prepare summaries, checklists, and training materials to support buyer understanding of packaging standards and best practices.

Packaging Quality & Sample Coordination
  • Assist with the tracking and documentation of packaging quality issues, including defects or packaging discrepancies.
  • Assist with reviewing packaging samples and documentation to ensure alignment with approved standards.
  • Maintain records of quality findings, resolutions, and recurring issues to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Cost & Data Analysis Support
  • Compile basic packaging cost data and material usage information for review by the Manager of Product Packaging.
  • Assist with tracking cost-saving initiatives and documenting packaging-related efficiencies.
  • Maintain trackers related to packaging materials, suppliers, and usage to support decision-making.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining packaging material data needed for EPR tracking and reporting.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with cross-functional departments and vendors with a full understanding of the package development process
  • Collaborate with PD Sample Coordinators to maintain records of sample submissions, feedback, and approvals
  • Communicate with packaging vendors to request specifications, samples, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Buying, Marketing, Quality) to ensure packaging information is accurate and up to date.

Systems & Process Improvement
  • Maintain accurate packaging records across systems and shared tools.
  • Follow established processes while identifying opportunities for improved organization and efficiency.
  • Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.

You'll Come With
Experience:
  • 1-2 years experience in packaging, product development, supply chain, quality, or operations with a strong interest in packaging materials, process and quality control.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree (Supply Chain, Packaging, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred)
