JOB TITLE:  Mechanical Designer 

REPORTS TO:Manager, Mechanical Engineering 

JOB STATUS:  Full Time 

FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt 


JOB SUMMARY:


The Mechanical Designer will play a critical role in the design, and development of baggage handling systems and components. You will collaborate successfully with mostly engineering stakeholders including project engineers, principal engineers, and other engineering designers and design engineers to complete baggage handling projects successfully. You will focus on safe, high-quality output, on schedule and on budget.


Our Mechanical Designer would be responsible in part for modeling the systems (or portions of the systems), based on customer specifications and as-sold information. You would understand the system and provide input when a more efficient design would be better suited. You will help create comprehensive, detailed installation and component level drawing packages per customer specifications and field installation team requirements.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design custom baggage handling systems using CAD software (2D AutoCAD, 3D Inventor).
  • Develop component level equipment, assembly, weldment, and part level models and detailed drawings for fabrication.
  • Collaborate in a team setting with other engineers, and occasionally with other business units, customers, or vendors.
  • Identify potential issues and provide efficient solutions.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs), Manifests, and other engineering documentation.
  • Create detailed field installation drawings containing detail for customer approval and field installation ease.
  • Ensure all designs comply with specifications and standards.
  • Participate in design review meetings with the project team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office primarily, with occasional field visits.

WORK SCHEDULE:


This position works in office. General office hours are M-F, 7a-4p or 8a-5p. Working hours may vary to meet project requirements.

Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and understand customer specifications, engineering drawings, Bills of Material, and equipment Manifests.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree, or equivalent in years of experience.
  • 3+ years' experience in conveyance, construction, or other system-level engineering functions.
  • Knowledge of conveyor systems, specifically baggage handling, is a plus.
  • Proficiency in CAD Software (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar).
  • Experienced use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to obtain airport security clearance as needed.
