FPGA Design Engineer
Sterling Heights, MI
$51.69 - $56.32/Hour
We are hiring an FPGA Design Engineer in Sterling Heights, MI to support development of advanced FPGA architectures and embedded hardware systems for mission-critical military vehicle and defense platforms. This role requires expertise in Xilinx FPGA development, VHDL/Verilog, SoC FPGA architectures, video processing, high-speed communication interfaces, timing closure, and embedded hardware integration supporting next-generation armored combat and vehicle electronics systems.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop FPGA architectures for video processing, control systems, and hardware interfaces.
  • Collaborate with systems, software, and hardware teams to translate requirements into implementable FPGA designs.
  • Develop, decompose, and manage design requirements into structured work packages.
  • Implement designs using Xilinx IP cores and third-party IP, and develop custom IP using VHDL/Verilog.
  • Perform timing analysis and closure, including constraint development.
  • Debug and validate designs through simulation and lab-based hardware testing.
  • Support and maintain legacy FPGA and CPLD designs.
  • Utilize revision control (Git) and issue tracking tools (Jira) for design collaboration and lifecycle management.

Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • 5-10 years of FPGA design experience.
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGA platforms and toolchains (Vivado, ISE, SDK, Vitis).
  • Experience developing with VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Experience with SoC FPGA architectures (e.g., Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC, ARM processors, PS-PL interfacing).
  • Experience with high-speed and embedded communication protocols: PCIe, USB, Ethernet, DDR, I2C, SPI, CAN.
  • Experience with video interfaces such as LVDS and HDMI.
  • Experience supporting Xilinx CPLDs (legacy systems).
  • Familiarity with Git (or equivalent) and Jira (or similar tools).
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and hardware integration.
