Job description

Trinity Consultants' water and ecology teams are driven by purpose, innovation, and a shared commitment to the work that we do. We tackle complex environmental challenges, blending expertise in environmental consulting, wetlands, fisheries, cultural resources, GIS, landscape architecture, and engineering. We empower our teams to develop their unique skills while fostering career growth within a company that is large enough to offer diverse opportunities yet agile enough to value individual contributions. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do-our professionals work together on meaningful and impactful projects, delivering solutions that help clients navigate regulatory complexities and see positive project outcomes.
Trinity Consultants is growing its environmental presence in Oregon and is seeking a Principal Consultant to help build, lead, and expand a natural resources program in the state. At its heart, this is a senior-level seller-doer role and is suited for a self-starter who thrives in building markets, leading work, and developing teams. Bolstering Trinity's expertise in water and ecology within the PNW market, this role will also work closely with other Trinity Consultants offices and service lines to deliver integrated environmental and natural resource solutions across the western United States.
What will I be doing?
  • Build and grow Trinity's natural resources consulting presence in Oregon.
  • Serve as a seller-doer, leading business development, client management, pursuits, and project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships across real estate development, renewable energy, government, transportation and other linear infrastructure, and mining and resource extraction markets.
  • Provide people leadership, including hiring, mentoring, coaching, and developing staff as the Oregon team grows.
  • Lead and support projects involving:
    • Wetland, stream, and aquatic resource assessments and delineations
    • State and federal permitting, including Clean Water Act Sections 404/401 and Oregon Removal-Fill authorizations
    • Wetland and stream mitigation planning, design coordination, and implementation support
    • Habitat assessments, impact analyses, and ecological restoration planning
    • Fisheries and aquatic biology studies, including fish habitat and ESA-related evaluations
    • Fluvial geomorphology and hydrology, including stream classification, impact assessment, and restoration support
    • NEPA environmental review and documentation, including technical studies and agency coordination
    • Natural resource support for linear infrastructure projects such as transportation, utilities, pipelines, and transmission
    • Renewable energy, mining, and other resource extraction projects, including reclamation and long-term monitoring
    • Coordination with multidisciplinary teams providing cultural resources, GIS, water resources, and restoration services
  • Establish and execute a hiring and growth plan aligned with market demand and business goals.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture.
  • Support career development, performance management, and succession planning for staff.

What qualifications are required for this role?
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 12+ years of experience in natural resources or environmental consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience as a self-starter who has built or expanded a consulting program or geographic market.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in people leadership and team development.
  • Strong understanding of Oregon and federal wetland and aquatic resource regulations.
  • Established client and regulatory relationships within Oregon.
  • Experience with NEPA, FERC, and/or cultural resources is a plus.

The wage range for this position is $161,000 - $191,000 per year depending on education and experience.
What does Trinity offer you?
  • Comprehensive benefits package: 9 paid holidays, healthcare benefits, PTO, and 401k matching for full-time employees. Flexible work schedules and remote/hybrid possibilities for most roles.
  • Multidisciplinary environment: Unique, creative, and challenging projects where you can develop your vision of clientele and work with industry leaders daily.
  • Success-oriented environment: Two-way mentorship, financial incentives to publish work, tuition reimbursement, and a career path structure to help you reach the next steps in your career.
  • Collaborative work environment: Clear and frequent communication, shared information and ideas across teams, and a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
