SUMMARY
  • Repairs and maintains mechanical and hydraulic components of production machinery and equipment, including metal fabrication tools, material handling systems, centrifugals, pumps, motors, and lubrication systems.
FUNCTIONS

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Apply knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Follow and help enforce all Standard Operating Procedures, safety rules, environmental practices, and GMP guidelines.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on plant equipment and facilities, troubleshooting and resolving issues efficiently.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, cutting and burning equipment, welding equipment, and material handling equipment safely and effectively.
  • Apply a strong understanding of general maintenance processes and methods.
  • Inspect and measure parts to identify wear, misalignment, or other issues.
  • Complete daily work orders and preventive maintenance tasks according to assigned priority.
  • Operate equipment such as cranes, hoists, forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and common power tools.
  • Collaborate with technicians, engineers, maintenance leadership, and technical support contractors to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues.
  • Perform precision maintenance on rotating manufacturing equipment.
  • Work independently when needed to complete maintenance tasks and follow written instructions.
  • Realign and adjust components such as spindles and clutches.
  • Locate damaged air and hydraulic piping; measure, cut, thread, and install replacement pipe.
  • Maintain drives, gearboxes, couplings, and precision alignments, and perform equipment preventive maintenance according to OEM standards.
  • Set up and operate metalworking tools, such as drill presses and grinders, to make or repair parts.
  • Perform centrifugal maintenance, including dismantling, inspection, repair, and replacement of functional parts.
  • Read diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure prescribed safeguards are used properly.
  • Fit bearings; align gears and shafts; and attach motors, couplings, chains, and belts.
  • Identify hand tools, fasteners, and trade-related equipment, and understand their proper applications.
  • Promote safe work practices and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Support and improve the food safety and quality of U.S. Sugar products and processes to sustain a best-in-class quality culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience

The following are the basic qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years mechanical and hydraulic components experience required.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions
