What is a packaging and production job?

Packaging and Production jobs involve preparing products for shipment or sale, ensuring they are safely and efficiently packaged, labeled, and ready for distribution. These roles typically include tasks such as operating machinery, assembling goods, inspecting product quality, and maintaining clean work environments. Workers in this field help organize inventory, follow safety regulations, and may use specialized equipment to package goods according to company standards. These jobs are essential in manufacturing, food processing, and distribution industries, supporting the movement of products from factories to consumers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in packaging and production?

To thrive in Packaging and Production, you need a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, attention to detail, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. These skills ensure efficient production flow, maintain product quality, and support workplace safety and productivity.

Digital & Packaging Designer

Laird Superfood

Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We were founded by a big wave surfer, and that spirit runs through everything we do — including how we work. We move fast, we sweat the details, we take our craft seriously and ourselves not-so-seriously, and we genuinely like the people we work with. If you want a job where you clock in, keep your head down, and clock out without ever cracking a joke in Slack — this probably isn't your wave.

We're looking for a Digital & Packaging Designer to join our in-house creative team supporting three fast-growing CPG brands: Laird Superfood, Navitas Organics, and Terrasoul Foods. This role splits its time between digital/social execution and hands-on packaging production — so if you like variety, and you're the type of designer who's just as comfortable prepping a dieline as you are cropping a social asset, this is built for you.

ABOUT OUR BRANDS

Laird Superfood: Founded by big wave surfer Laird Hamilton, Laird Superfood makes functional food and beverage products — including superfood creamers, coffee, and hydration — built to fuel performance and everyday wellness. The brand blends functional ingredients with clean, simple formulations to help people fuel their best day.

Navitas Organics: Acquired by Laird Superfood in early 2026, Navitas Organics is a superfood company specializing in organic, nutrient-dense ingredients like cacao, maca, and chia. The brand is rooted in sourcing integrity and making functional superfoods accessible for everyday cooking, baking, and wellness routines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You'll take art direction, and execute across two connected lanes:

Packaging Production

  • Assist Travis directly with packaging development across a wide range of CPG categories: dry goods in pouches, stick packs, multi-serve pouches, boxes, protein bar film, coffee packaging, K-Cups, liquid creamer, ready-to-drink coffee, instant coffee, and single-ingredient packaging
  • Support packaging across all three brands
  • Prepare accurate, print-ready files that work correctly within established dielines
  • Work confidently with Pantone/PMS color, CMYK process, spot colors, and overprint — this isn't optional knowledge, it's core to the job
  • Help ensure packaging includes all required elements: Net Wt. statements, Nutrition Facts panels, ingredient statements, manufactured for/by statements, Prop 65 language, Oregon Tilth organic certification, and Non-GMO Project Verified certification
  • Partner with our quality/compliance team to make sure everything that goes to print is fully compliant and sellable without issue — bonus points if you've done this before and know your way around FDA labeling requirements

Digital & Social

  • Paid & organic social content for Meta, TikTok, YouTube, and other platforms — you should know your safe zones, aspect ratios, file specs, etc. when designing for paid social
  • Email marketing across multiple brands, working within established seasonal campaigns and core evergreen brand systems
  • Product launch campaigns — executing assets across DTC websites, retail, and Amazon
  • Photo editing — taking raw photoshoot images and getting them retouched, cropped, and launch-ready
  • Page layout for sales sheets and digital retailer ads

You'll be working across a genuinely broad CPG portfolio — different brands, different categories, different retailers, different print and digital requirements — so being nimble and detail-obsessed is a must.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Real, working print production experience — this is a requirement, not a nice-to-have. You need working knowledge of Pantone/PMS color, CMYK, spot colors, overprint, and how to build/work within dielines correctly
  • Solid foundation in both print and digital design, and an understanding of how they differ
  • Working knowledge of paid social platform requirements (safe zones, specs, sizing, platform quirks)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat
  • Comfort managing multiple brands, categories, and deadlines at once

Who You Are

  • A team player, not a drone. We collaborate, we give each other feedback, and we have fun doing it
  • Someone with real ambition to grow — as a designer and as a person
  • Someone motivated by contributing to something bigger than just their own task list
  • Detail-obsessed when it comes to print and compliance, nimble when it comes to everything else
  • Comfortable owning real production responsibility without needing constant hand-holding

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working within FDA labeling requirements and an intimate knowledge of print spec requirements (Net Wt., Nutrition Facts, ingredients, manufactured for/by, Prop 65, Oregon Tilth, Non-GMO Verified)
  • Experience working alongside a quality/compliance team on packaging sign-off
  • Experience with Premiere and/or Figma
  • Familiarity with Amazon Seller Central
  • Experience with Asana for project management
  • Experience with Claude (we're on an Enterprise plan) — especially alongside AI image-generation tools for email content
  • Experience working with retailers/grocers like Whole Foods, Costco, Walmart, Amazon and similar
  • Familiarity with influencer marketing programs and related design deliverables (influencer kits, campaign toolkits, etc.)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $62,000–$78,000/year, depending on experience
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Remote (U.S.) — HQ in Boulder, CO

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Reports to: Travis Smith, Art Director
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Travel: Rare, but possible (a few times a year, tops)

Ready to help us fuel the ride? We'd love to see your portfolio.
