Job description


POSITION SUMMARY: The Civil Superintendent plays a critical leadership and subject matter expert role in the engineering, procurement, and construction in regard to civil components of an industrial construction project. The position may assist with but not limited to: working with engineering in construction planning and engineering, working with procurement to ensure proper equipment, material are sourced and have the expected quality, work with construction planning in developing the schedule, construction plan, and advance work packages, and oversee all or a scope of civil construction activity. The position may manager a large civil workforce with supporting staff; and have budgetary responsibilities for that department.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinating with engineering on design and construction planning

  • Partner with procurement to ensure proper equipment/material are ordered, received on time, and to specification

  • Manage field construction, maintenance, engineering, and other field project support activities

  • Supervise the development of project schedules and monitor production to assure timely project completion

  • Review costs report and perform analysis to assist with reducing costs and maintaining productivity

  • Establish project labor requirements and review the requirements with district and/or divisional management

  • Conduct regular project inspections and advise project supervision of work progress, quality of work, and safety conditions requiring attention

  • Coordinate work with subcontractors to ensure all subcontract work is within project scope and specifications. Administer project policies and procedures to subcontractors

  • Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, and client/owner representatives to isolate project problems and assist in developing solutions

  • Regularly conduct safety meetings and aid supervision in addressing areas and conditions requiring attention. Continually monitor projects to assure adherence to company and regulatory procedures

  • Monitor project purchasing activities to assure quality material and timely delivery at competitive costs

  • Determine the necessity of construction equipment and ensure equipment is properly maintained

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Demonstrated experience working on industrial civil projects and as a subject matter expert for civil construction components of an industrial project.

  • Confirmed experience of not just managing large groups but leading them to success

  • Capability of managing a budget

  • Must be able to read and manager construction activity to a schedule and to advance work packages.

  • Excellent ability to effectively communicate with but not limited to: employment applicants, employees, peers, supervisors, customer representatives, and executive stakeholders

  • Ability to work on the required IT technical items including but not limited to: computer proficiency, MS Office applications, scheduling application, and the ability to learn and use proficiently other company applications

  • Selected candidates must illustrate that they are a cultural fit and are aligned with the core values and vision of the company

  • Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally

  • Must be able to relocate or temporarily relocate to the project area during construction activity, as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Formal or vocation education

  • Certifications relevant to civil construction

  • Employee former or current Zachry Group

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting. Will talk and hear to communicate. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools. May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs. Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms. Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including by not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employee will be required to work in all-weather climates including wind, rain, and snow. Will work at an elevation of +/- 6000 feet above sea level. Snow, sand and dust clouds may be frequent. Noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools. People standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Bells, whistles, and alarms.
