Job description

The Field Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day field operations, supervision, coordination, and successful execution of government construction projects. This position provides on-site leadership to subcontractors, trades, vendors, and field personnel while ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents, specifications, drawings, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.

The ideal candidate has strong field leadership skills and experience managing commercial, public-sector, federal, state, municipal, or other government-funded construction projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise daily construction activities on government project sites.
  • Serve as the primary field representative for the General Contractor.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, inspectors, testing agencies, and project personnel.
  • Review plans, specifications, submittals, RFIs, schedules, and contract requirements to ensure field compliance.
  • Establish and maintain daily and weekly work plans and coordinate activities with the Project Manager.
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential schedule delays, conflicts, and construction issues.
  • Conduct and participate in daily coordination and construction meetings.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, applicable codes, and government contract requirements.
  • Coordinate with government representatives, Contracting Officers, inspectors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, manpower records, equipment logs, site documentation, and progress information.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, quality of work, manpower, productivity, and adherence to schedule.
  • Implement and enforce site-specific safety requirements and company safety policies.
  • Coordinate site access, deliveries, material staging, logistics, and site security.
  • Verify materials and workmanship meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with subcontractors and project management.
  • Assist with project scheduling, look-ahead planning, progress tracking, and recovery plans.
  • Support inspections, testing, commissioning, punch-list activities, and project closeout.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with government personnel and project stakeholders.
  • ·         Ensure compliance with applicable government contracting requirements, including site procedures, documentation, security, environmental, and quality-control requirements.

·         Assist the Project Manager with change orders, claims documentation, cost impacts, and field verification.

·         Promote a professional, safe, organized, and productive jobsite.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of construction field supervision experience, preferably with government, public works, commercial, institutional, or federal projects.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Superintendent field leadership position.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, sequencing, and scheduling.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and trades.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions.
  • Proficiency with construction management and scheduling software is preferred.
  • OSHA 30 training/certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Experience with federal government construction is highly preferred for federal projects.
