Job description

Trauma Program Manager
Full Time | 80 hrs. biweekly 

The Trauma Program Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure the delivery of exceptional, coordinated trauma care across the continuum of services. This role leads a multidisciplinary approach to trauma patient management, ensuring compliance with state and national trauma standards while advancing quality, performance improvement, and patient outcomes.

Working under the medical direction of the Administrative Medical Director of Trauma Services and the administrative direction of the Director of Nursing Resources, and in close collaboration with the Surgeon-in-Chief of Trauma Services, the Trauma Program Manager coordinates the care of trauma patients across departments and disciplines. The role serves as a key resource for physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, EMS partners, and community organizations by providing clinical consultation, education, and program leadership.

The Trauma Program Manager maintains collaborative relationships with regional healthcare organizations, physicians, emergency medical services (EMS), and community partners to strengthen the regional trauma system and ensure seamless, high-quality care. In partnership with EMS support program staff, the Trauma Program Manager helps ensure that pre-hospital trauma care throughout the region aligns with local, state, and national standards and evidence-based best practices.

The Trauma Program Manager is responsible for leading trauma program initiatives, overseeing performance improvement and patient safety activities, supporting trauma center verification and accreditation efforts, analyzing trauma registry data and outcomes, facilitating interdisciplinary communication, and promoting continuous quality improvement to achieve optimal patient outcomes and regulatory compliance.

The Trauma Program Manager practices in accordance with the Maryland Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care.

Education – Bachelors degree in nursing required. Masters degree in nursing or related field preferred.

Experience – Minimum 5 years experience in a combination of at least 2 areas (critical care, emergency department, operating room, PACU, management). Must include at least 3 years of trauma care experience. Demonstrated experience in clinical outcomes monitoring, quality monitoring and financial analysis.

Licensure/Certification – Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required or obtained within first year of employment. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required or obtained within the first year of employment. Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) or similar Trauma related certification required or obtained within the first year of employment. Current BLS (CPR) in compliance with policy.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities – Demonstrated effective communication skills (verbal and written) necessary to collaborate with a wide variety of individuals including physicians, managers, medical center staff, EMS providers, patients, and families. Basic computer skills in MS Office applications with experience reading and analyzing spreadsheet data.  Ability to effectively supervise and direct others.
