Job description

If so, this may be the overnight role you're looking for. POST RANCH INN, the world renowned boutique hotel in Big Sur, seeks an Overnight Security Guard to join our team. The nature of the position requires working during late PM and early AM hours (generally 11:00pm - 7:00am), 5 days per week.

Frequent vehicle usage will be required, must be 21 years of age to operate and have a clean driving record under insurance guidelines. JOB OBJECTIVE: The Overnight Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and peaceful environment for guests, employees, and property during overnight hours. This role manages access at the property gate, monitors the premises, responds to incidents, and ensures all security protocols are followed while providing a calm and professional presence.

This role will also support and assist the Overnight Guest Relations Supervisor and Night Audit position. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Access & Gate Control Staff and manage the property gate during overnight hours Verify credentials for all incoming vehicles, guests, employees, and vendors Maintain accurate gate logs and visitor records Enforce property access policies and deny entry when appropriate Property Monitoring & Patrol Conduct regular foot and/or vehicle patrols of the property, buildings, and surrounding areas Monitor security cameras, alarms, and surveillance systems Identify and report suspicious activity, safety hazards, or policy violations Incident Response Respond promptly and professionally to security incidents, disturbances, or emergencies De-escalate situations when possible and contact emergency services as needed Complete detailed incident reports and shift logs Communicate incidents and follow-up needs to management and incoming shifts Safety & Emergency Preparedness Enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures Assist with fire, medical, weather-related, or evacuation situations Conduct safety checks of doors, gates, lighting, and secured areas Guest & Employee Support Provide courteous assistance to guests and employees during overnight hours Answer questions, provide directions, and offer basic support while maintaining security standards Maintain a professional, calm, and respectful demeanor at all times Administrative Duties Maintain daily activity logs, reports, and documentation Ensure security equipment is functioning properly and report maintenance needs Follow all company policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards Perform limited night audit duties as assigned, including basic reporting, system checks, or data entry during overnight hours ESSENTIAL WORK SKILLS: Strong situational awareness and attention to detail Calm judgment and ability to de-escalate situations Clear verbal and written communication Access control, patrol, and surveillance skills Emergency response readiness Professional, guest-focused demeanor Reliability and ability to work independently overnight EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Previous security, law enforcement, or military experience preferred Frequent vehicle usage will be required, must be 21 years of age to operate and have a clean driving record under insurance guidelines PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Visual and auditory acuity to monitor surveillance systems and surroundings Pay range for the Overnight Security Guard position is $24.00 - $26.00 per hour (DOE) ABOUT US: Post Ranch Inn is one of the most acclaimed luxury resorts in the world and is consistently listed as one of the world's best places to stay.
