Job description

Summary:

The Overnight Warehouse Distribution Supervisor is responsible for leading and directing all warehouse operations on the overnight shift, overseeing a team of approximately 10 associates to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate order fulfillment and distribution. This role is accountable for meeting key performance indicators (KPIs), maintaining a high-performance culture, and handling all aspects of staffing including hiring, coaching, and disciplinary actions up to and including termination in partnership with HR

Key responsibilities

- Lead, supervise, and develop a team of about 20 overnight warehouse associates, including assigning work, providing direction, and monitoring performance.

- Oversee all overnight warehouse activities, including receiving, picking, packing, shipping, replenishment, and inventory movements to ensure on-time, accurate order fulfillment.

- Monitor and maintain shift KPIs (productivity, accuracy, on-time shipment, labor utilization, safety metrics), using reports and dashboards to track results and drive improvement.

- Prepare and review daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports, communicating performance, variances, and action plans to senior management.

- Ensure compliance with all company policies and standard operating procedures, as well as OSHA and other safety and regulatory requirements.

- Conduct regular shift huddles, safety talks, and process reviews to keep the team informed, aligned, and focused on priorities.

- Partner with HR to recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new warehouse associates for the overnight shift.

- Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance feedback; manage disciplinary issues including verbal and written warnings, performance improvement plans, and terminations, when necessary, in accordance with company policy.

- Manage scheduling, time and attendance, and labor planning to ensure appropriate coverage while controlling overtime and labor costs.

- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity, accuracy, safety, and employee engagement, using data and root-cause analysis.

- Maintain a clean, organized, and “audit ready” warehouse environment during the overnight shift.

- Coordinate equipment needs (forklifts, pallet jacks, scanners, etc.), including ensuring proper use, reporting maintenance issues, and minimizing downtime.

- Investigate and document incidents, inventory discrepancies, and service failures, implementing corrective and preventive actions

Required qualifications

- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in warehouse, distribution, or logistics operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.

- Proven experience leading teams of 15–25 associates in a high-volume distribution or warehouse environment, preferably on a night or overnight shift.

- Demonstrated ability to understand and use operational reports, KPIs, and basic analytics to manage performance and drive decision-making.

- Hands-on experience with disciplinary processes, performance management, and documenting coaching and corrective action.

- Experience recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, and, when necessary, terminating employees in alignment with HR policies and local laws.

- Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and RF scanning; comfortable with basic Excel and reporting tools.

- Strong knowledge of warehouse safety practices and OSHA guidelines.

- Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to hold team members accountable while maintaining a positive work environment.

- Ability to work an overnight schedule, including some weekends and holidays as needed.

Preferred qualifications

- Experience in retail, e‐commerce, 3PL distribution environment.

- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, especially for diverse warehouse teams.

Working conditions and physical requirements

- Primarily warehouse environment on an overnight shift, with exposure to varying temperatures and warehouse noise.

- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting to–50 lbs. as part of daily operations.

- Required work schedule of 6PM to 3AM Monday to Friday, with one week of training during daytime operation hours of 9AM to 6PM Monday to Friday before transitioning to nights
