Job description


Manage all aspects of a geotechnical, facilities, materials, or environmental engineering project to ensure that it is safely completed on time and within scope and budget. Responsible for completing the project as per its contracted scope; monitor progress and performance against the project plan. Troubleshoot and recommend or resolve operational problems and minimize delays. May be responsible for resource management, project scheduling, budgets and forecasts, and working with external vendors, subcontractors or contractors. Conducts meetings and prepares reports to communicate the status of the project to project team and client. Set priorities, assign tasks, and coordinate project staff to meet project targets and milestones. May have responsibilities to communicate with the client and deliver work products to satisfaction of client. Coordinates effort with APR to make sure that APR has opportunity to engage throughout the project, particularly at critical junctures. Is involved with approving invoices, preparing change orders, and collections. May also be tasked with growing a support team to assist in managing projects and continued growth over time. Responsible for some client development including discussing Pavement Consulting Services with potential clients.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing large scale (major) projects, National Account and/or Sector Programs comprised multiple individual projects each with designed project managers.
  • Works with clients to define project scope, scale, schedule and budget in addition to determining how best to manage the projects to meet the client's needs.
  • Leads interactions with client, stakeholders and project managers to ensure the program and/or projects or aspects of projects are coordinated, managed and delivered to meet the needs of the client and stakeholders.
  • Design, communicate, and implement a project/program management plans including schedules for completing projects.
  • Leads safety efforts for the entire program including preparation and compliance with approved safety plan.
  • Resolve operational problems across multiple project interfaces to minimize delays.
  • Identify, develop, and gather key resources to lead the individual projects.
  • Oversees the preparation, design and development of work specifications; develop schedules, cash flow, budgets and forecasts; select materials, equipment, project staff, and contractors.
  • Estimate costs, resources, and time required to complete.
  • Prepares forecasts for expenditures and manages scope, schedule to meet budget
  • Monitor activities, allocate resources, and assign tasks to ensure targets are met.
  • Works with operational leadership. National Account Managers (NAM) and Sector leaders with responsibility for mega project and program financial success.
  • Partner with project managers to work with other departments or offices to secure specialized resources for project(s).
  • Conduct project and program meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project(s) within and beyond the project or client team.
  • Supports the NAMs, Sectors and operations with and/or directs the efforts of the largest projects and client pursuits including strategy and facilitation.
  • Coach and mentor project managers and assist them to solve problems.
  • Coordinates with the quality team to ensure appropriate oversight is in place and sufficient time allowed for quality reviews.
  • Coordinates with lead project accountant for financial management of business intelligence, invoicing and collections.
  • Manage risk related to projects. Ensure contracts are signed and fully executed prior to commencing work. Monitor adherence to corporate risk policies and practices. Hold Managers accountable for mitigating or eliminating risk.
  • Communicates safety initiatives, rules and guidelines for Office or Region. Holds Managers and Employees accountable for following safety rules and guidelines.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Ensure best practices are being followed and hold Managers accountable for quality control standards.

  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline practices by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and a minimum of 15 years' related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 19 years' related experience.
  • A valid driver's license with acceptable violation history may be required.
  • Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer required
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist (PG) or similar professional registration/certification relevant to the type of services and projects being managed
