The Role 

Stratus recently partnered with PVEDI and is seeking a Geologist/Scientist. The Geologist/Scientist works independently on a wide range of projects and is responsible for full- cycle environmental site assessments, sample collection, data analysis, and detailed report writing and preparation. The Geologist/ Scientist position is on a development track toward project management. The successful candidate will be pro-active in building skills in client communication, budgeting, scheduling, and task coordination, with the goal of transitioning into a project manager role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conducts environmental assessments and field work including, but not limited to, Phase I and Phase II ESAs, Underground Storage Tank (UST) investigations, NYS and NYC Brownfield Program Site investigations and remediation, and
• Conducts on-site monitoring of construction activities in accordance with Remedial Action Plans.
• Management and interpretation of environmental monitoring data to assess analytical trends and identify exceedances.
• Supervision and documentation of field activities including, but not limited to, soil borings, monitoring well installations, remediation, and sample collection.
• Prepare work plans and reports detailing procedure, results, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Work directly with project managers on task management.
• Travel to local project sites, with occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 1-3 years of experience in the environmental consulting field with focus on environmental assessment and due diligence, sampling, data collection and evaluation, and technical writing.

• Strong working knowledge of methodologies and procedures associated with due diligence, soil/groundwater investigations, remediation, environmental engineering, compliance/permitting.Strong technical writing skills for well documented findings, high-quality report preparation, and the development of regulatory submittals.

• Clear, organized communication of technical information to both internal teams and external clients is essential.
  

• Strong administrative and organizational abilities to manage project documentation, maintain accurate records, track milestones and deadlines, and support data management and reporting efforts.

• Excellent problem-solving skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.

• Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects/on-going projects.

Preferred

• Working knowledge of Phase I ESA preparation in accordance with ASTM Standards.

• Working knowledge of NYS Brownfield Program and NYC OER Voluntary Cleanup and E-Designation Programs

• OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training and current 8-hour refresher

•  ArcGIS skills and experience a plus
