TITLE:         Volunteer/Assistant Coach
QUALIFICATION:        Employment as a teacher/support staff preferred.

                                    Demonstrated interest in, knowledge of and aptitude for performing the tasks listed.

                                    Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:        Athletic Director and/or Head Coach

JOB GOAL:            To help each participating student achieve a high level of

                               skill and appreciation for the values of discipline and       

                               sportsmanship and an increased level of self-esteem.     

                               Assistant coaches will assume responsibilities assigned by  

                               the head coach.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

*    Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.

*    Actively supervise students participating in activities during practice, in locker rooms, at all times while in travel status, whether in vehicle, at competition sites or at overnight accommodations.

*    Instill in the participants through the sport, a sense of dignity and respect for themselves, their teammates and opponents.

*    Plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season.

*    Give input to the head coach and/or Athletic Director in scheduling interscholastic contests.

*    Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms, as appropriate.

*    Be responsible for an accurate and up-to-date inventory for respective sport.

*    Maintain necessary attendance forms, insurance records, accident forms and similar paperwork.

*    Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.

*    Establish performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition.

*    Work cooperatively with the head coach.

*    Enforce disciplined and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establish and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.  Administer the adopted code of conduct in the athletic handbook.

*    Maintain a level of personal conduct which will serve as a role model for student athletes.

*    Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Arizona Interscholastic Association.

*    Perform such other functions as may be required or assigned.
