Sport Counselor – Summer 2026
Camp Chateaugay – Adirondack Mountains, Upstate New York

Dates: June 13 – August 12, 2026
Compensation: $2,500 + we pay for any travel expenses and includes all, room & board & meals

About Camp Chateaugay
Camp Chateaugay is a premier co-ed sleepaway camp for children ages 7–17, located in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York. We pride ourselves on creating a supportive, energetic, and inspiring environment where campers grow, build confidence, and create lifelong memories.

We are seeking a skilled and energetic Sports Counselor to join our Athletics (“A-Field”) Department for Summer 2026. This residential role combines many different sports instruction with full cabin counselor responsibilities, offering the chance to coach, mentor, and create an unforgettable summer experience for campers.

Some of the sports we offer are Basketball, Lacrosse, Soccer, Baseball, Archery, Golf, Volleyball, Material Art, Yoga, Fitness and Mountain Biking. There are opportunities to lead and assistant in all of these areas.

Sport Instruction

  • Plan and lead fun, engaging sports sessions for campers of all ages and skill levels
  • Teach core fundamentals or each sport and game strategies
  • Run drills, practices, and scrimmages leading up to games and matches
  • Adapt lessons to a wide range of abilities, fostering confidence and development
  • Ensure safe and proper use of all equipment and facilities
  • Collaborate with the Athletics team and assist in other sports as needed
  • Lead up to six activity periods per day under the guidance of the Area Director
  • Prior knowledge is not needed for all of these activities

Cabin Counselor Role

  • Live in a bunk with 6–12 campers alongside co-counselors
  • Support daily routines including wake-ups, meals, activities, and bedtime
  • Maintain a clean, organized cabin and ensure camper well-being
  • Provide supervision at all times, including rest hours and overnight
  • Build strong relationships, mentor campers, and manage minor day-to-day challenges
  • Foster independence, confidence, teamwork, and a sense of belonging
  • Participate in cabin trips or campouts each session
  • Bring energy, enthusiasm, and leadership to all aspects of camp life
  • Be an active participant in evening programs, special events, and camp traditions
  • Help create a positive, inclusive, and spirited environment for all campers and staff

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $2,500 +
  • Transportation allowance provided
