Job description

Purpose of the Position

Partner with growers to raise the best quality birds at the least cost.  

Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Exempt position. 

Assists farms. Assists farms in the proper procedures for efficient and productive management of their farm to ensure that they produce the highest quality, lowest cost meat for the processing plant. Communicates frequently with farms.  

Ensure maximum productivity of each bird. Instruct and teach farm managers how to achieve production. Frequent  touring of farms to identify opportunities and generate solutions. Assign and plan for duty delegation, cost controls on every aspect of the farm. Provide technical assistance for the efficient production of poultry, including the provision of advice on issues of flock health to management.  

Accomplishes Quality performance. Accomplishes quality performance in all responsibilities being performed in a  manner which meets total quality program of continuous process improvement and customer relations. Follows a management schedule for the weighing, drawing blood and pulling of fat samples from the flocks. Monitors the health and safety of all flocks on a daily basis.  

Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a  supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy  possible within the larger organization. 

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems  (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain  familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact  of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas. 

Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives: This position description is intended to guide the activities of the person in this position and is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person as to the work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position. 

Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Communicates with Customers, Vendors, or Employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail. May present information to small or large groups. Must be able to work in various temperatures. Move about in a broiler/breeder house environment and surrounding property. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, temperature extremes, and dark environments as needed. Must be able to be on call 24/7 as needed. Must also be able to work  any hours needed and work on feet for the entire shift as necessary. Some climbing stairs/ladders. Will travel via car to various work locations. 

Travel: Travels domestically to and from multiple facilities or work-sites, possibly requiring overnight stays. Since this position requires the use of a company vehicle, all Company Vehicle policies must be followed to include hands free devices, seat belt usage, smoking, and any others which may apply. 

Technical Experience: 1-2 years supervisory experience is preferred.  

Industry Experience: 3-5 years’ experience in Poultry or similar background. 

Minimum Education: Related Bachelor’s degree or 4 years’ experience in manufacturing, poultry or related field in lieu of degree.
