Position Highlights
  • Dedicated overnight schedule with predictable block scheduling
  • Practice within a nationally recognized academic children's hospital
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including pediatric oncology, hematology, stem cell transplant, critical care, infectious diseases, surgery, radiology, and supportive care services
  • Manage a diverse patient population including children with leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors, brain tumors, sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, and other complex hematologic conditions
  • Opportunity to develop expertise in oncologic emergencies and acute pediatric inpatient management

Responsibilities
  • Provide overnight inpatient coverage for pediatric hematology/oncology patients inclusive of inpatients and home patient calls
  • Evaluate and manage acute clinical concerns, including fever and neutropenia, pain crises, transfusion reactions, oncologic emergencies, chemotherapy-related toxicities, and other urgent conditions
  • Perform admissions, consultations, cross-coverage assessments, and discharge planning as appropriate
  • Coordinate care with attending physicians, fellows, residents, nursing teams, and subspecialty consultants
  • Respond to rapid clinical changes and participate in emergency management and stabilization of critically ill patients
  • Facilitate safe and effective patient handoffs between daytime and nighttime providers
  • Document patient encounters and treatment plans in accordance with institutional standards
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and educational initiatives within the division
Qualifications:
Physician Assistant Candidates
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • NCCPA certification
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure or eligibility for licensure
Preferred Experience
  • Prior experience in pediatric hematology/oncology, pediatric hospital medicine, pediatric critical care, emergency medicine, or other acute care pediatric settings
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to function independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
