Job description

Are you a safety-conscious driver looking for a stable, full-time career with great pay, benefits, and the chance to be home every night? Hood River Garbage, a Waste Connections Company, is looking for a reliable and motivated Rear Load Garbage Truck Driver to join our team in Hood River, OR.

Previous waste industry experience is a big plus—but not required. We’re happy to train the right person!

The schedule is Monday–Friday, from 6am-2:30pm, depending on route.

The starting pay $36.59/hr, with an increase to $37.87/hr after a 90-day review.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a garbage truck on designated routes to collect solid waste. Waste experience is preferred but not required.

  • Read route sheets and service each customer listed or assigned by the dispatcher.

  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on vehicles, including checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires.

  • Perform a physically demanding job, including loading and unloading, sometimes without assistance.

  • Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift and load refuse and dispose of trash at designated facilities.

  • Interact courteously with customers and perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Requires extensive physical activity, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 50 pounds.

  • Work environment involves exposure to physical risks, such as moving mechanical parts, requiring basic safety precautions.

  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including frequent wet and/or humid environments, as well as fumes and vibrations.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Valid Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement required, Class A CDL Preferred

  • Clean driving record (please bring a copy of your MVR to the in-person interview)

  • Ability to operate 10-, 13-, and 18-speed transmissions (preferred, not required)

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant driving experience

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Safety-Sensitive – YES (Drug Test Required)
