CDL Garbage Truck drivers are professional drivers who operate large waste collection vehicles. They hold a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) which allows them to handle heavy-duty trucks used for collecting, transporting, and disposing of residential or commercial waste. Their duties often include driving assigned routes, picking up waste or recyclables, and ensuring safe operation of the truck. These drivers must follow safety regulations, maintain their vehicles, and sometimes interact with customers or the public. They play a crucial role in keeping communities clean and sanitary.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a CDL garbage truck driver?

To thrive as a CDL Garbage Truck Driver, you need a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), a clean driving record, and a solid understanding of safety procedures and vehicle maintenance. Familiarity with hydraulic lift systems, route navigation tools, and sometimes Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance certifications is typically required. Reliability, strong work ethic, and good communication skills help drivers interact with customers and work efficiently as part of a team. These skills and qualities ensure safe, punctual, and effective waste collection services while maintaining public safety and operational standards.
