Purpose:

Friends of Blackwater is a West Virginia-based nonprofit organization and an AmeriCorps Program dedicated to restoring and protecting the Blackwater River watershed-one of Appalachia's most treasured natural landscapes. For over 20 years, FOB has worked to heal waterways damaged by acid mine drainage from legacy coal mining, improving water quality and helping to rebuild the environmental and economic health of the surrounding region. Grounded in the values of environmental stewardship, community engagement, and long-term restoration, FOB serves the communities in and around Tucker County, including the gateway towns of Thomas and Davis-charming small-town hubs nestled near Blackwater Falls State Park that offer a rich blend of Appalachian culture, outdoor recreation, and a growing tourism economy.
