Position Summary

Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children

Providing compassionate care to the children, teenagers and young adults of Central Florida for more than 30 years, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is located on the downtown Orlando campus and includes 156 licensed beds for specialized care for children as well as the Bert Martin’s Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center, offering trauma care for children as the pediatric site of the Orlando Health ORMC Level One Trauma Center. State-of-the-art pediatric services are provided by a comprehensive staff that includes pediatric subspecialty physicians and a nursing team that is “Magnet” recognized for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. The hospital also has earned national recognition for 12 consecutive years as a “Best Children’s Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report and was included, together with Orlando Health ORMC, in the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list for 2021.

Arnold Palmer Hospital is seeking for Pharmacy Technician III to assist with operational and all distribution responsibilities as they are related to Pharmacy Technician functions including Orlando Health software and hardware systems.

This position will support both Arnold Palmer Hospital and Winnie Palmer Hospital

Shift: Overnight - 7 on/7 off


Responsibilities

• Demonstrates an understanding of safety, emergency, and risk management procedures.
• Demonstrates an understanding of the hospital mission, personnel policies, philosophy, goals, customer service, and objectives of the Pharmacy and Orlando Health.
• Demonstrates familiarity with the general duties and processes of the Pharmacy department.
• Demonstrates the ability to Identify and utilize resources and departments for customer service and patient care, based upon need, availability, and responsibility of resources.
• Demonstrates the ability to operate the equipment required for pharmacy procedures, consistent with operating instructions, safety regulations, and policy and procedures.
• Performs the basic Pharmacy Technician procedures required by the assigned area consistent with scientific principles, policy, and procedures.
• Performs the basic buyer procedures, including drug procurement required by the department, consistent with departmental principles and Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Accurately assists the Pharmacist in all duties pertaining to the medication distribution, including proper aseptic techniques for admixture of various types of medication (e.g. chemotherapy) and functionally performing tasks/procedures associated with automated dispensing cabinets.
• Maintains USP 797 standards and other regulatory required documentation.
• Maintains safe handling and proper disposal requirements.
• Maintains the controlled substance vault and perpetual inventory and other documentation files depending on the needs of the department.
• Completes special projects as assigned.
• Participates in the training of new pharmacy technicians and may verify final competency as needed.
• Maintains advanced expertise in and actively covers technician services in a specialized practice area (e.g. medication history acquisition-controlled substance inventory management)


Qualifications

Education/Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintains current Pharmacy Technician registration with the Florida State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate (CPht) received through a nationally recognized program (e.g., Pharmacy
  • Technician Certification Board – PTCB, Institute of Pharmacy Technicians – ICPT) is required.
  • Maintenance of current certification is required.

Experience

  • Greater than four (4) years of experience as a pharmacy technician.
Qualifications:
